Not awesome.
Constantly logged out, constantly being told my connection is slow or my system is having a hard time connecting and commands may not work, constantly showing different than the actual status of things - app shows door is unlocked but door is locked, thermostat shows 70 degrees but app says 68. All mega mega annoying. One star because I’ve had all of the bigger name smart home apps, and none of those other apps ever felt nearly as clunky or buggy, and they had problems of their own! But SmartRent absolutely wins for worst smart home control.

Th SmartRent app has been a source of immense frustration for me. As a resident, I am compelled to use it to access my rented apartment, but unfortunately, it falls short in several critical areas. Functionality Issues: The app simply doesn’t work properly. The most significant pain point is the inability to open or close the door reliably. As someone who relies on this app for access, this is a major concern. Persistent Offline Status: The system seems to be perpetually offline. Whether it’s due to technical glitches or poor connectivity, this inconsistency undermines the very purpose of the app. In summary, the SmartRent app has left me feeling trapped and frustrated. I hope the company addresses these issues promptly to improve the user experience for everyone.

Unlocking my door takes 3-10 seconds to unlock if it works. Rather just use a key but can’t because of the lock has no physical override. Technically, not SmartRent’s lock but they chose it as part of their ecosystem. Lock has no buttons, have to type super slowly or else it doesn’t register a button press and constantly gets jammed because the motor is weak. And even when it works, sometimes still sends me an alert saying it’s jammed. Also why can’t I generate my own code? Makes no sense that I have to have it auto generated by SmartRent’s app As for the “smart” light switch, SmartRent or whoever did an update and now it glows bright blue all the time. Why? No idea. Very annoying to have that in my bedroom and SmartRent provides no way to turn off the light switch’s internal led which should be user configurable and default to off. Who wants a bright glowing switch 24/7? As for latency, I work in IT so my network is very fast and I use it all day for online meetings with no issue. The SmartRent hub device is plugged into ethernet so think it’s definitely on SmartRent’s side, not my network
