Participation in this program is currently limited to USAA members with an active auto insurance policy in select states. The USAA SafePilot App instructs, inspires and rewards safe driving habits to help keep you safe on the road while lowering your auto insurance premium. Eligible members can receive a discount of up to 10% for enrolling and participating in the program, and earn a premium discount at renewal time for being safe drivers. When activated, the app monitors driving habits including phone handling, hands-free phone use, harsh braking, and how much you drive. The better you drive, the greater the discount on your next premium. All members of a household included on a USAA auto insurance policy can participate, with the earned discount based on an average of each driver’s individual score. Bumps & Potholes
I live a mile and a half on a bumpy dirt road in Arizona and I drive a truck. Harsh breaking violations are near impossible to avoid. it’s not a county maintained rd (like that would make any difference)
Issues
I wish we could comment on issues such as harsh breaking do to being cut off or animal runs in the road ect ect. Furthermore, using the cars hand free phone feature should not be held against the driver.
Review
Often this app rates harshly
Infractions shown but not listed in trip details so I have no idea when or where they occurred

Inaccurate reporting
The apps will record phone handling even if your phone is MOUNTED in your car just because you bounce around on a gravel road or hit a pot hole. You have zero option to disagree with the specific “infraction” other than to mark the entire trip as passenger. Not to mention it also records phone handling if you grab your phone as soon as you park because you are trying to rush out of the car if you happen to be late one day. It doesn’t matter that your car is parked and off. Hands free calling is also counted against you. Which is inconvenient if you have a busy schedule and need to contact work. It is ridiculous to have it count against you as hands free is legal. It would be better to monitor behavior such as speeding instead. And the harsh braking “infractions” fail to take into account you could be avoiding an accident or an irresponsible driver. There is no leeway at all. You might as well slam into the back of the car that cut you off. The passenger detection is also off. Many times it has recorded me as using my phone 30-50% of the drive when I’m clearly not the driver.
Keeps not recording
We keep getting emails that say no records. We fix it every day and same result.
