SporTran OnDemand

With input from the community, we’ve created a public transit alternative – SporTran OnDemand! OnDemand offers a direct route from designated OnDemand stop to OnDemand stop for riders in one of the OnDemand locations/zones. Arrive in style in one of our Dodge Caravans or Chevy Malibu and Dodge Challenger sedans. OnDemand has replaced our former LiftLine service, providing direct transport for those in need of Paratransit (ADA) accessibility. Our OnDemand paratransit vans are specially equipped with wheelchair lifts/ramps and other accessibility features that allow maximum mobility for customers with disabilities.



How is OnDemand different than fixed-route bus service?

· OnDemand provides faster service for the OnDemand locations listed below, bypassing the stops and hubs riders don’t need. 



· OnDemand is being rolled out in phases. We will update the list as we bring new zones into the OnDemand service area.



· OnDemand is an opportunity to build rural connectivity. For citizens in outlying areas without access to a standard bus line, OnDemand can get you to one of our hubs, and then connect you to a variety of locations.



·  The best part? OnDemand fares are FREE!



SporTran traces its history to the 1870's when mule drawn street cars ran from the downtown area to nearby outlying areas. Today, SporTran sports a fleet of over 95 modern heavy duty and smaller cutaway buses equipped to handle all passengers, including those with disabilities. Our buses are powered by the latest emission reduction systems such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and 100% Battery Electric Technology.

Beginning in 2022, all SporTran and SporTran OnDemand rides are Zero Fare! Passengers pay nothing for their trips.

5/30/23 Evaluation of The Present System (RE:Lift Line)

May 30th, 2023. The present system is AI ( Artificial Intelligence) dominated. ARTIFICIAL: Not Real!!!” Therefore, present System LACKS HUMAN TOUCH.. It also LACKS UNDERSTANDING, FLEXIBILITY, and ADJUSTABILITY. It does NOT have “built-in” BALANCES or “CHECKS and BALANCES” to bring a certain HARMONY and a flowing/ fluent DIVINE ORDER to specific situations and to the patrons. Sometimes, this human understanding can be injected by the drivers and the dispatchers. Yet, this New System CONTROLS Dispatchers, Drivers, and definitely the Consumers/Patrons. By it being AI, it lacks DIVINE MiND and the human quality of VISION. In the beginning, I was not picked up, or “Left Behind,” and had to figure out how to get back home. This caused great Anxiety and Fear. The System did not allow me to reach dispatch by telephone to make HUMAN “VERBAL” COMMUNICATION with another human beings. In the old system, I did receive a verbal reminder and voicemail. This way, I could HEAR 👂it by telephone and SEE 👁️👁️ it in text, thus allowing for some PRE-PLANNING and VISION. If the machine, malfunctioned or the message was incomplete, I could always call Dispatch for Clarification (Checks and Balances). The verbal communication between the Dispatcher and patron/ customer establishes the human touch of assurance, that “things will be alright.” It is a special relationship. This warm connectivity between the Dispatcher and the patron/customer cannot exist between man and machine. With man and machine, there is a coldness, barrenness, and the lack of the qualities of Life and Spirit. This system has no verbal cues, that one can hear for patrons or consumers, like myself. I was informed that the System does provide this to some patrons with other special needs. Most of the patrons/ customers are physically medically challenged (ADA). Therefore, we cannot move with the flexibility of body, agility, or the “speed” of “Flo-Jo,” Super Man, Super Woman, and etc. Limiting the time to five minutes is insensitive and does not accommodate the special needs of the patrons/ customers. It produces physical reactions of anxiety, the Fear of not meeting the bus (vehicle) or being “Left Behind.” I do not have challenges with “elevated” blood pressure. However, it is being created by my body’s reactions and my trying to accommodate to this system, instead of the System accommodating to me (under the ADA). In the Old System the Dispatcher and the Driver were empathetic and were able to apply flexibility to accommodate the Needs of the Patron/Customers by verbal communication and telephone calls with the patron/customer. “With” signifies “teamwork” and to bring Harmony into the situation so that things will work out Successfully FOR “ All Persons Involved.” Again special relationships and connectivity were developed. Allowances need to be made for persons who try to “catch their breaths” due to challenges of breathing or respiratory issues. There is a great NEED for EXCELLENT and EFFICIENT air conditioning systems in the buses and vehicles, for both patron/customers and drivers. A better air circulation system and an air purifying systems with several layers of hepa filters is definitely needed. Some systems include injecting some moisture in the air ( humidification) according to “the need” of the Air Quality. Hopefully, implementing high standards for air conditioning and air quality, will help to avoid over-heating of the human body, heat stroke, asthmatic conditions, other respiratory conditions, circulation, muscular challenges, and other that are especially challenged during the spring/ Summer with its “High” Temperatures and Louisiana humidity. At this time, I wish to thank the Drivers and the Dispatchers who have been supportive to me and other persons in the past and present.
