Helium is a lightweight AUv3 MIDI sequencer plugin designed specifically for AUM. It supports up to 16 tracks of unlimited length with the ability to direct output to 16 channels on up to 16 MIDI output ports. One of the great features is the ability to import and maintain libraries of MIDI clips using Helium's 'Media Bay'. These clips are freely available all over the internet and may contain individual chord sets, chord progressions or drum tracks. You can quickly build a song by dragging and dropping your MIDI clips from the media bay onto your timeline. You can also save your own clips directly to the media bay to create your own personal MIDI clips libraries. Long press on a clip to preview its contents using the currently selected MIDI device. Helium now ships with a library of over 7000 MIDI clips, consisting of every chord and chord progression you could ever need. Helium allows many different ways to import additional MIDI clip libraries. Simply drag and drop your ZIP collections directly to your PC/MAC web browser and they are automatically unpacked into the clips library folder. You can also drag and drop files between the Media Bay and the iOS Files app. Helium supports a sync mode called 'Remote Looping'. This was something we recently introduced into our MultiTrack Recorder plugin and is very useful for breaking down the timeline into sections. You can define up to 12 loops which can be used to specify the locations of say the intro, verse, chorus, and outro within your song, then trigger these loops seemlessly in sync with the host tempo. Once captured, these loops can then be triggered by incoming MIDI notes. A new addition to Helium is the ability to piece together loops into songs, so you just concentrate on creating a single verse, chorus, bridge etc. and piece everything together without the headache of having to re-arrange your timeline. You can adjust the screen scaling to suite your iPhone model by long pressing the MENU button and changing the scale.
Exported Midi, clips, and songs are not in the folders, only for helium access
What’s the point of exporting midi files if I can’t access them. Only helium will open midi files created in helium. Anything created in helium is unavailable. Just call it "save project". The helium folder remain empty…
A powerful stand-alone app, too!
This app reads and writes MIDI files without a Host. I was having multiple issues when using Helium in AUM. Turned out I didn’t need to use AUM at all. The Media Bay took some trial and error to understand how it works. My biggest Media Bay issue was not being able to find the folders I created in Media Bay. They must be hidden folders as the iPad Files app can’t find them anywhere in my iPad or on iCloud. Nonetheless, with some trial and experimenting I was able to import, export, and create: Songs (multitrack Midi files) and Clips (single track Midi files). This app can do a lot more. I just scratched the surface of what it can do. I expect it will become one of my favorite MIDI tools. Thanks, 4Pockets!
Almost Perfect
I’ve been looking for an iOS sequencing solution for a couple years and Helium is easily the best tool I’ve found. I would love to see MIDI channel switching controlled by AU Param, but here’s to 4Pockets for nailing it yet again!
Big disappointment!
I do not know what “AUM” is. I was hoping I could create music within the app itself; however, where is the sound? Volume is turned up and I do not hear anything! Developer has many videos on YouTube; however, I do not have time to listen to them all, which would probably take hours. Don’t get this unless you are a professional musician!
A very common features for any editing which was ommited
...a scissor tool is not included in the many tools this one has. Otherwise would be a 5/5 or at least would be pretty close. Please include in an update. Thanks
Almost perfect
Just wish i could view more ghost tracks at the same time, and they were more visible so i could see all the midi note on different tracks on the same piano roll with different colors. Other than that, its useful.
Song mode host tempo
Loop isn't available in song mode, so helium follows it's own at her than the host (AUM) tempo, his would be good as an option, but manually changing tempo on the fly is very inconvenient. Also, having some inconsistent behavior with loops in song mode, and some strange triggering behavior : if I use a keyboard as a midi recording input, then use it to playback, it does strange things like run through the undo history and muting playback loops.
v1.35 b122 Added thousands of new Modal chords progressions to the MIDI clips library. These are provided courtesy of Ludovic Drolez.
