Hold the Moon in your hands. Moon Globe HD turns your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad into a precision instrument for viewing Earth's Moon. Satellite imagery and topographic laser altimeter data are combined to render the Moon with realistic lighting in realtime 3D. Use the multitouch screen to manipulate the view. Spin above the surface, or switch to Telescope mode to see the Moon as it appears from your location on Earth. Adjust the display time and watch the sunlight shift over the lunar landscape. A "tag cloud" floats just above the surface, labeling terrain features and spacecraft; touch any label to find out more about that feature. Moon Globe also shows you where the Moon and Sun are in the sky with its dynamic sky compass. PLEASE NOTE: Regular Moon Globe is a smaller download and is free. This HD version has slightly, not extremely, better resolution.
Very Nice
Fun little app to show the moon phase and interesting details. I wish there was an option to have it open with no buttons showing (unless you tap the screen). I use it to set my daily screen wallpaper with an iOS shortcut, but the buttons keep showing. 🤷🏻‍♂️
It’s Ok but a few disappointments
As a long time amateur astronomer I think it’s just ok. An app in my pocket to identify features at the eyepiece. The terminator is poorly defined. When I select a date I want to know exactly what is in high relief on the terminator. I was also disappointed it didn’t have a little more resolution even in the HD version. It’s basic.
Best moon app
This the best moon app I've found. Beautiful and well-organized.
Used regularly-good
I liked the free one, purchased the more high def one. Excellent overview related to backyard visual observing. Online resources have more, like elevation, gravity, mineral maps, selection by feature type This is great for simplicity.
Our Solar System....
This is where knowledge of our Solar System begins....the Moon. Get to know our nearest neighbor w. this outstanding app.
Good reference.
I would like to see a grid for scale.
Absolutely stunning!
I’m a very dedicated amateur astronomy educator, and I spend a lot of time showing people the moon. I’m sad to say that my knowledge of the names of the moon’s craters and highlands is middling at best. This app is a beautiful and easy-to-use tool for reviewing those names, for figuring out what you can see on the moon when, and for generally exploring our closest celestial neighbor. There’s nothing half as good on the app store for learning our moon
This app has been updated by Apple to use the latest Apple signing certificate. • Updated for iOS 7 and iOS 8. iOS 7 or later is required for this update. • Supports full resolution on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. • The Sky Compass projection is now based on angular elevation. This better indicates how high the Moon and Sun are in the sky.
