Excellent app, some tweaks could have it even better

Disclaimer: I am not Indigenous and I am a doctor (but do have mental illhealth) I really liked this app. It's well set out, the metaphors make sense to me as a non-Indigenous person, it covers the basics and has good suggestions for what you can do to make yourself feel better. My only area for improvement is the contact numbers. When starting the app for the first time, it asks for your postcode to give you useful contact numbers. I provide my post code (in NSW) and the numbers at the top of the list under national helplines were for the NT. I think this is unhelpful, because I had to scroll a long way down to find my local Aboriginal health organisation and it wasn't well organised - the states were together, but once I got down to NSW ones it jumped all over the place geographically and wasn't in alphabetical order. If you ask for a postcode and say it's for help organisations, please ensure it works as intended. The numbers provided were good - 000 at the top, followed by some national helplines then local organisations. It was just the organisation of the locals that needs to be tweaked. As a patient, this was one of the better mental health apps I've seen for explanation and suggestions on ways to get yourself feeling better. I'd like to see options for help that aren't phone calls, but realise internet is spotty in some areas so a webchat may not work but a landline might. I especially liked the values section ('what matters to me') as this isn't touched on by other resources. As a doctor I liked the information and that if you scored too highly/distressed on the mood scales the list of numbers would pop up so you could get help. I will be recommending this app to those who have no or mild psychiatric concerns. Awesome app, would like the list of numbers reviewed due to the organisation and some non-phonecall ways to get help.

Not enough security for user

It is understandable that you need either phone or email address to open this app -so long as you allow user to delete information if they don’t wish to keep the account open and or have their personal information made available to Black Dog and or other possible third parties. 1. It seems at present there is no way for user to remove these details once Black Dog has collected them; 2. It seems that there is no active way for user to “opt out” once account is open -it is unclear to user whether even deleting app only takes it off screen yet still retains it in the cloud-does this means their data can be utilised by BD? 3. Users content that may be VERY personal is NOT protected in any way-There SHOULD BE a security feature-fingerprint/password-THIS doesn’t exist which means users psychological history can be seen by anyone who picks up their phone-this means there is NO TRUST for user-they are not safe. 4. The “how I’m gonna beat this” icon does not open-does this infer the user WONT 5. App in extremely limited -is it in traditional languages also ? Where are translations in it? 6. If you fastidiously record say 10 days worth of data and finally perceive some trends what is the user meant to do with this information ? There are no further options available in the app at present ? This is extremely disappointing especially after having read about collaborative processes with TO artists when it was first created. This app apparently denies users the power to control their personal details, to control who sees their material. There is little user safely as they are not offered confidential contexts in which their responses are protected and they have absolutely no way of actively “opting out” of this app ONCE it’s started. This app offers the user little reciprocity for our mob; the Black Dog privacy policy linked to the App Store add for the app (at the time of this review post) states words to the effect “we may collect person information about you....by using our website ...or by otherwise engaging with us in connection with the Operational Purposes you are indicating your acceptance of this Privacy Policy”. The policy further states “we may ....use your information ...with any of our relevant third parties...partners, suppliers, collaborators, advisers and business associates.....we may use your personal information (including sensitive information or health information) .....” When will WE be afforded our rights of privacy, confidentiality, self determination ?

Great to see more apps for the indigenous community!

Quite impressed by all the research done and evidence based. Like that all content is co-designed by Aboriginal and Torres straight island people for their people x

Really helpful

I really like this app, and how easy it is to understand. It’s helped me through some tough times and I especially like how you can use it without connection to the internet.

Deadly app

I like using this app as I can check in on my well-being daily and it only takes a couple of minutes. My young Aboriginal mentees say it’s helpful for them to use especially when they are feeling down. It’s also handy that you only need data to download initially then doesn’t require data
