Requires Ultimate Werewolf (2021+) -- cardbacks have a QR code Generate Ultimate Werewolf decks, scan players and their cards, and run Ultimate Werewolf games easier than ever! This preview of the upcoming official companion app to Ultimate Werewolf requires either Ultimate Werewolf (4th edition), Ultimate Werewolf Extreme (including the Kickstarter version), Ultimate Werewolf Bonus Roles, and Ultimate Werewolf Pro. Build custom Ultimate Werewolf card decks with various deck attributes, such as the number of players, village/werewolf balance, length of game, moderator difficulty, role information, and specific roles. Save those decks in the app for future reference. Deal those cards to players, and then quickly scan the backs of the cards, the names of the players, and the faces of the players themselves into the app. Start the game, and the app will walk you through each day and night phase, including waking up each role at night, marking players who have been targeted by werewolves, and eliminating players. This is a preview release, and there are many features that are not complete or have not been entirely implemented: – Dice Tower Kickstarter roles are not implemented – Some complex role interactions are not implemented yet – Day and Night timers are functional, but do not contain all the features of the UW Timer app yet Please report any issues found to [email protected].
Where is the official release?
As of this writing, the last app update was 10+ months ago with patch notes saying the official release is coming soon. There’s still a lot left to be desired with the app in its current state and I’m holding out hope Bezier delivers a functional app instead of just moving on to republishing yet another version of this game. Two primary functional challenges with this app that make it frustrating to use: First, I’ve never seen such difficult to scan QR codes. To be fair, that’s likely not the app’s fault and more the card designer’s fault for not using a color for the QR code that contrasts enough with the background. Or the high gloss cards making it challenging to scan without a glare on the card. But it absolutely is part of the poor app experience and is worth mentioning. Second, the face scanner is tedious and requires face detection, which it often struggles with. Just let me click a photo instead of waiting forever for it to try and detect a face. These two are the biggest issues and make it very slow to start a game. There are plenty of quality-of-life updates I’d love to see, but I won’t dive into that long list. Here’s to hoping they do right by the customers and deliver on the promise they sold us on when releasing “Extreme”.
Scanner
I've tried to scan the cards and I've never been able to fully scan one. The most I got was 66% then it stopped. I don't think the preview is worth using. Really all it can be helpful for is generating a balanced deck and the timer if I want to use it.
Terrible
The app is unresponsive. I have had to delete it and redownload it many times. Each time, it works a little bit better than before but that is still not saying much. The scanner is temperamental, at best. I have to hit the arrows multiple times before it advances or rewinds and once it finally does, it go back or forward further then I want. This game is designed for large groups but if you have more than 5 players, once you scan and take pictures for each character they are too small to read or see the pictures. There are no instructions as to how to use the app. You are better off learning how to moderate it yourself.
Close, but not there yet…
I’ve practiced moderating with the app a couple times in advance of a big game tomorrow. So far, I mostly like it, but there a two major flaws… the balance numbers on the app-generated decks is wrong (e.g. I made a deck that should be +4, that the app says is +7). The other issue is that the timers don’t work. The scanning etc. seem to work well though, seemingly the most complicated features.
This is the final preview! We've added a credits page, a standalone timer (In case you want to use the timer without the moderator or card scanning), and plenty of little bug fixes and polish throughout the app. We're gearing up for the full release, so please contact us with any issues you may have in this update!
