Kagi Search is a quick, user-centric, 100% privacy-respecting search engine with results augmented by non-commercial indexes and personalized searches. It has a clean, high-performance user interface with only the most relevant results and no telemetry, no ads and no collection of private information. We designed it as a premium service to stand at the intersection of the internet and humanity. We hope it will help users amplify their abilities and make them more creative and smarter as well as more productive. Note about using Kagi extension in Dark Mode: sometimes your default search engine website may flash with white background after doing a search because it had no time to load its theme preferences but got promptly redirected to Kagi by the extension. To avoid unwanted flashes please try to select different default search engine in Safari settings. We recommend trying DuckDuckGo
so what exactly is it supposed to do?
I installed the extension and enabled it in my iOS Safari settings, and no additional search engine option appears. I’m still only given the default options: Google, DuckDuckGo, etc. I tried quitting Safari and switching the search engine multiple times. My Safari searches are still using whatever is selected in iOS. I double-checked the Kagi app instructions and I’ve done everything correctly. Now I can only look at it as a security risk that gives me no benefit but is allowed to spy on everything I do in Safari. Not good!
Is it a game changer?
Idk, but it’s a nice quality of life change. As a search engine, it’s great. I use it for all my searches now. No ads def is nice. Why do I pay for this, and didn’t when neeva was around? Part timing and realization, part simpler search UI. Worth it imo knowing that my searches aren’t littered with intrusive distracting ads.
It does work in private mode now
Previous reviews stating otherwise are out of date.
If this works
… then the instructions need to be updated. As far as I can tell, I’ve set this up correctly but nothing’s changed for searches from Safari…
So clean and efficient - it’s worth paying for an experience this good.
I’m not sure where I stumbled across Kagi, but I gave it a shot, and it’s really, really, good. I’ve thrown a ton of searches at it from the popular to the obscure, and I don’t miss Google at all. I really appreciate the clean interface and presentation of information-and it surfaces a surprising depth of quality information. I just signed up for the professional plan, so far I don’t see any downsides to the switch - and this seems like a project worth supporting.
Unclear instructions
[Update] I finally figured out I needed to select the extension in Safari itself under the aA menu. I’d love to try out the search engine but I can’t seem to get this to work with Safari. Maybe an issue with iOS 17?
Simple integration and easy to use
I use kagi for everything but do not want to use the Orion browser. This is a good solution for me and be behaves exactly as though kagi were a first class option in the iOS settings app.
- [Fixed] Private session urls containing query template no longer redirect to Kagi homepage on first search
