This is the best door appliance I have ever had, either with keys or no keys am not worried I love it
Unreliable in both software and hardware
Considering an August? Don’t. Doesn’t even know how to decide whether the lock should connect by WiFi or by Bluetooth even though I’m inches from the lock. You would think by now August would only improve functionality. Get something else; better yet, save money and use your keys. It’d be one thing it things just remained bad but it’s wild that every year into technological advancement we somehow end up doing worse.
Lock is great. App and widget interface blows
App is clunky and a PITA to use. I wish the widget was more like the watch app. Widget doesn’t always perform function and I have to go to the app to make things work. Seems like the software was an afterthought to the design of the lock. Lock is great.

Great App/Smart Lock
We have owned this lock for several years now and it has worked consistently in the time we have had it. One thing that needs to change though is the access schedule feature. For example, you currently have the ability to set access times on a Monday 00:00-23:59, but you cannot set multiple access times for the same day like Monday 00:00-01:00 and Monday 06:00-23:59. It would be great if the developers could add this feature at some point.
Sent a used, registered lock, iOS app didn’t warn me
The iOS app failed to warn me that the lock that I had received from August was pre-used (despite arriving in new packaging and ordered as new), and that the lock I spent 30 minutes installing was already registered to someone else and could not be enrolled. I had to borrow an Android phone to attempt to register the device, only to finally receive a warning that the lock I was sent was used and I would have to REQUEST that the previous owner release the registration to me. This is garbage tier development and a serious red flag about how August sells items. They will sell you a used lock you cannot register. Returning. Pass.
Most useless invention
Thanks to August I just had my worst Airbnb check in experience, where I had to stand in cold wind around midnight in darkness competing a tedious process to set up my account. I’m sure that’s the best, most streamlined UX design they can ever come up with for Airbnb guests working with their product for the first time. My phone was also on low battery after a long day of travel, and pretty sure I needed that additional anxiety at the moment fearing that my battery died and I and my family with kids were locked out of the door of the room we booked. Bonus: it only works with my phone, but not my wife’s phone who is on the same Airbnb trip. Imagine you are the only one who can unlock the door, and your family on the same trip needs to go pick something up from the room, or you lose your phone… Good luck! The App also got my email and phone number, who knows where that info would end up with. They sneakily signed me up on their quote and quote newsletter already! How convenient!
