Firstly, I’m an iOS user and get my content from the Economist primarily via audio. This content is fantastic - no complaints and gets five stars. But this is an app review and the app is frustrating for several reasons but primarily because I have no idea how to manage and use the audio “queue”. There is no obvious way to initiate the audio play feature except if you only care to play the audio from an article that is showing in the weekly section. In the Home Screen I want a nice big button that says “Audio Queue” it something like that and in which a means of adding you and deleting from the queue is possible. I have been using this app for over 5 yrs and this morning as I write this review, I have no idea how to start playing the selection of articles I was listening to yesterday!! This is awful! Economist, please fire your app developer and hire someone.. anyone else.

I have been reading The Economist cover to cover for five years now. Whenever I would find a particularly interesting article I would save it. Occasionally I would go through my saved articles and reread the more interesting ones. I recently had to reinstall the app due to a phone upgrade and ALL my saved articles were gone. Apparently the list is stored locally, not in our account, an unbelievable oversight by the developers. Almost 500+ articles gone.

I’m a subscriber to the paper edition and this latest app update broke my ability to use the app. I am unable to log in now. It keeps asking me to subscribe and I can’t.

Used to be fine but not crashes frequently. Response is poor, often cannot tell if app has recognised my “taps”. What have you done to this app??

There must be new programmers. Software engineers and QA people must have been fired or left. App is unresponsive, is frozen at times, search is utterly useless. What happened to the great app?

First I love the content throughput the podcasts. While not everyone of them is for my taste, they all make sense. My concern: once I have listened to a section I do not care for having it automatically play again just because it is in a specific line. Rather, I would prefer to have to specifically request that I rehear something. Question: How can I sync my iPhone and iPad so that they both reflect what I have and have not listened to? Overall great product. I will actually go through the menu. That I would prefer would look more like that of a text book index, and grade (hmmm awfully subjective) each one. Thanks for a great product.
