De-Esser is an AUv3 Compatible plugin for your favourite DAW such as Cubasis, Auria, AUM, Meteor, BM3 (does not work as a standalone app). This is actually a trio of effects all rolled into a single package which are ideally suited but not limited to voice recordings (De-Esser, a Vocal Doubler and a Noise Gate). This De-Esser is a great tool for removing sibilance from your vocals. Sibilance is the harsh over emphasising of phonetics such as 'ss', 'sh', 'ch', 'th' etc. which tend to be made worse during the recording process. This plugin has two modes of operation, 'standard' and 'multi-band' which can be used to effectively remove this kind of problem. The standard mode emulates the ducking of a volume control just like mixing engineers used to do in the good old days, but in this case uses a compressor driven by a filtered band of the input signal that contains the problematic frequencies. This is a common and effective method which has been tried and tested for many years. The multi-band mode uses a similar filtering mechanism to isolate the effected frequency band and applies a compressor to just that range in isolation. This method gives much more pleasing and natural results as it retains the overall volume level and only effects the specified frequency range. We also included a Vocal Doubler which simulates a multi-track vocal recording. It uses sophisticated techniques that eliminates the phase cancellation issues associated with layering vocals in this way. You have complete control over delay time, levels and stereo field placement. Finally this package incorporates a Noise Gate, to remove unwanted background noise from your recording. Fully configurable threshold, attack, release and dB reduction settings are available. A visual frequency display helps you quickly find and isolate the effected frequency ranges which can also be turned off to reduce CPU load. 4 different visual modes are available to help visualise issues. A siblance filter preview button lets you listen to the problematic frequencies in isolation and a limiter is available to make headroom for the vocal doubler. This is a great addition to our AUv3 plugin range which is heavily biassed towards recording of vocals.
Work’s absolutely fine!
Those are complaining about this app not working properly, it’s absolutely ok and running smoothly, just be a you dont have the 5 minute to read the manual or the description, it isn’t the developers fault. Kindly show a little bit support to the devs. They are trying passionately and sincerely to support this iOS music platform. Regards.
Sounds Great But Doesn’t Save Settings
It would be 5 stars if the settings would be saved when I re open my daw. Every time I open my project I have to reset my settings on this app. Please update this issue and then I will give you the 5 stars that you deserve for a great sounding deesser!
Crashes A lot With GarageBand
Bought this a year or so ago, crashes a lot with GarageBand now I’m scrambling looking for a new De-Esser
Great tool, but with one fatal glitch.
Great de-esser. Unfortunately, every time I close my GarageBand song project, my settings are reset to default... which renders the whole thing nearly useless.
Not comparable to desktop deessers
Always defaults to female voice no matter what you last set it on. When you dial it in you have choice of cutting off the air frequencies, heavy essss or lispy sound. Not great I just use shelf eq now
Great tool, wish it worked
To be honest, in theory what this app does is fantastic. The playback when I apply this De-easer gives me everything I want from it and it’s extremely intuitive to use, and then on top of that it even gives you additional tools aside from the base De-esser so you can fit more plugins into your track. It’s a ton of really great ideas! The issue is that if you ever dare close your song file, any pre-sets or parameters you’ve set will be undone by the time you re-open your app. I’ve actually been using this for a little over a year now and never wrote a review because it was such a glaring issue that I’d have expected a fix to already be on the way, but it seems to have slipped under the radar, so hopefully this review will bring it to someone’s attention. Any exports I make with songs I’ve applied this tool to may as well have not had it on at all, which is a real shame because it means at some point when another De-esser option is made, it will likely obsolete this one entirely.
Wow. It works.
Not perfect. Very touchy and tends to take out more transients than necessary to tame the harsh esss. Also tends toward adding a bit of a lisp when it removes the harsh sounds. The dev is great check out their other apps this is not one of the great ones.
Added the De-Esser Threshold Level to the exposed settings. Fixed the broken Profiles menu.
