The DASH Diet is for preventing and lowering hypertension, as well as encouraging natural healthy weight loss.

DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. The main goal of the diet is to prevent and lower high blood pressure, although there are some other beneficial "side-effects" such as weight loss. It is a heart health recommended diet and the best for high blood pressure along with healthy weight loss.

The DASH diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products, whole grains, fish, poultry, beans, seeds, and nuts. It also contains less salt and sodium; sweets, added sugars, and sugar-containing beverages; fats; and red meats than the typical American diet. This heart healthy way of eating is also lower in saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol and rich in nutrients that are associated with lowering blood pressure—mainly potassium, magnesium, and calcium, protein, and fiber.

The DASH eating plan doesn't require any special foods or supplements like a lot of homeopathic diets. It simply calls for a certain number of daily servings from various food groups. The number of servings depends on the number of calories you’re allowed each day. Your calorie level depends on your age and, especially, how active you are. You will also limit your sodium levels to either 2300mg or 1500mg each day. The less salt you eat, the more you may be able to lower your blood pressure.

Very helpful app

I like the app and purchased the premium subscription. My problem is that you don’t allow people to set the Doctor’s ordered sodium target. All you give is either 1500 or 2300 grams per/day. My Doctor has me on a 2000 grams per/day sodium allowance. We should be able to set whatever level of sodium that we need. Otherwise I really like this app so far and look forward to many days of use.

Clunky. Inaccurate. Poorly designed

As others have stated, the app is poorly designed and clunky. Barcode scanner is weak at best, and usually returns inaccurate information. Absolutely no way to add “”favorite foods”. Super frustrating experience. Moving onto different app.

Not usable

Add for quick books won’t clear. Even forcing the app closed won’t make it go away. Garbage app now. And I am never buying quick books because this speaks volumes for both apps.

Great but limited

It’s very helpful but unless you buy the barcode app you will continue to get pop up’s. It does not remember what you are previously like a WW app so you have to re-enter each time and it will not log in certain things like wine which I think is important to the full picture.

Since latest update, nothing works 😞

Things were going well until a couple days ago. I can see my “recent” list but can’t add anything to a meal. Barcode is glitchy and, of course, there are the ads. Not happy about using this app and it’s not accurately reading the barcodes.

Just ok

First, the app does what it says. I cannot dispute that it meets its mission. But there are issues. The look is way too crowded, making navigation difficult. Putting all meals on one screen, plus grafts, charts, search box … poor design. The scrolling selection for servings/sizes is positioned too close to the screen edge, causing frequent switching of the screen. The above can be overlooked, but there is a major flaw. It seems most of the data is user entered. MANY are far from accurate. This is unacceptable as users must guess (or Google) for accurate sodium, calorie, and fat content. Further, there is no breakdown of sat vs unsat vs trans fats. This is a major shortcoming. I paid for the premium version before realizing the inaccurate data. Don’t waste the $9.99. Update: a recent change is causing significant lags in the logging features. I’ve been using this app daily for almost a year now. It just keeps getting worse. Does anyone know if a good alternative?

DISAPPOINTED

I was excited about an app based on DASH, since I follow that diet, and want to stay on track. When this app works, it’s great, but every day I’ve used it there have been issues that waste time and have made me decide not to use it any more. First, there are videos advertising health related products that pop up arbitrarily, are very annoying, and take me by surprise. More important, and the ultimate deal breaker, though, is after spending time loading information I’ll discover some was arbitrarily deleted or changed. For example, after putting data in regarding my weight, I scrolled up and it went from 119 pounds to 362 pounds. I didn’t do that, but there it was. Yesterday and today I discovered entries I’d made for several meals were deleted. I don’t know why this happens but I don’t have time or patience for it. Very disappointed.
