Ruins Story delivers in spades with an interesting setting, fun gameplay, and monetization that does not intrude upon the overall experience. There is definitely a learning curve involved with the controls, and during the boss fights it’s sometimes hard to keep track of where Ruina is on the screen, but overall it feels very fair in terms of difficulty. It always feels like the game is pushing me to improve my skills, and I like the challenges that are presented in terms of boss fights. My biggest knock against the game is probably the dialogue translation and inability to access previous tutorial information regarding game mechanics. The in-game logs are easy to follow, but dialogue can be unclear. One conversation that comes to mind is where Ruina is trying to get info out of Nekoro regarding their relationship with humanity vs. the rogue dolls. “You” is used to refer to Nekoro, which makes sense in Japanese (“あなた“) but it doesn’t read clearly to an EN audience since second-person language isn’t common in daily conversations. I think clarifying who “you” is referring to (even a “Nekoro, you”) would help immensely. Overall, great game!

ReverseStory was the first game I’ve played that had me interested in its unique gameplay and the sequel delivers. So far, I’ve been through a quarter(?) of the game and this game has fun gameplay with its mechanic being to balance usage of (α) and (b) guns, both of which use an “overheat mechanic” and deplete/fill each other in equivalent exchange to annihilate enemies. There’s a variety of guns ingame you can obtain randomly to spice up your build which I really like. Though, the story is slightly wonky with its translation and the movement is awkward sometimes. One suggestion I have is to have an option to switch the sides of the attribution guage to the other side. Often, my thumb covers the bar so I cant tell how far I am from overheating. Thank you and great game as always.
