Practice and hone your IFR instrument scanning skills while playing a variety of courses “On Instruments”. Each course includes a series of heading, altitude, and airspeed changes that must be flown with precision to maximize your score. Courses are divided into Easy, Intermediate and Expert Levels. Additional courses without course guidance are available, as well as a series with an Attitude Indicator failure.
Quick IFR
Compared to a full fledged flight simulator, this gives you immediately accessible bite-sized challenges , great for when you only got a few minutes to spare.
Love the game, but…
I’m REALLY glad this game/trainer exists. It helps with some scan skills I have always struggled with. It’s awesome, and I keep playing it again and again. But a few things are holding it back. That said, I can NOT figure out the scoring system. The rate of points loss seems to DRAMATICALLY increase as time runs down. You can be climbing at the correct rate and banked at the correct angle and your score is just getting hammered. I don’t know WHAT that’s supposed to teach. Also, most of the climbs and turns are timed to exactly finish simultaneously which isn’t realistic. Some of the turns should end before the climb/descent and vice versa.
Excellent!!
Before you start your IFR training you have to know : A) how to scan B) performance settings Make your life easier, master this first then go and shoot approaches
Power + Attitude = Performance
This is a great training tool for IFR students and rusty pilots. It helps develop and practice a good scan, and it teaches the most fundamental principle of Instrument flying: Attitude + Power = Performance Level flight: half bar up + 2200 rpm Ascent at 500fpm: 5 degrees up + 2400rpm Descent at 500fpm: 5 degrees down + 1800 rpm Level turn: half bar up + 2300rpm Besides that, the game/challenge format of this app is brilliant, as it motivates IFR students to try harder.
Incorrect Dynamics / Stability
The program requires holding the iPad at an angle to keep the aircraft in a bank. I'm a CFII and, uh, no! Please make the control inputs / flight dynamics / stability work similar to X-Plane.
Simple, cheap, and does the job
Just the primary instruments plus the tach. Van extremely useful tool for initial ifr practice and the instrument portion of ppl training. It even has inop instrument challenges where the attitude indicator will slowly fail. Probably has other failing instruments I have not seen yet. Only reason not 5 stars is because I think it's missing a realistic lagging effect where the roll of the plane lags behind the control input. Otherwise it's great.
Excellent!!
Great practice for both students and instrument pilots to improve your instrument scan. Well done!
