Bored Panda

Not able to edit or remove comments or replies that I make. Why take that away? Sometimes I get the “you’re having internet issues, please try again”. No, I am not having internet issues, everything else is just fine, it’s only noted panda. When you click the part to see how many votes or replies on your comment/post, it does not take you directly to it. It used to do this 1-2 years ago. Now, you have to to hunt for it by clicking the “view post”, then scrolling through the post to look for the one(s) you made or commented on. Then today, it would not let me vote. Said I had to log in. Apparently, I was kicked off overnight. So I logged back in, and I tried to place my vote again. Took me back to the login screen. I did this about three times, just to make sure. Still no luck. When you click on the top three tabs of different titles, half the time, a blank screen pops up with the words, “no posts yet”, or something along those lines. What the heck is going on these days with BP? They have definitely been declining a lot in the past 6-8 mos or more.

The content hs always been good for a quick, entertaining browse, but now the ads have gotten far out of hand. You cand even back out of an article when you’ve finished it without getting bogged down with a 30-second ad. It’s ruining the app, as is the unnecessary censorship. Even children can read the word “drugs” or “dead” without going off the deep end, especially when reading an article about medical care. You don’t need, ever, to use “unalived.” Treat us like rational human beings, capable of refraining from a drug-fueled rampage simply by reading the word “drug.”

But now, not so much. I got it when the ads started, but now I’m super frustrated with the “Buy these great things” content, which is constantly downvoted but new ones appear every day. Buy a clue. We don’t want more ads. And for crying out loud, fix your content verbiage. It’s cut off mid sentence and you have to click the Reddit link to read the full sentence. If I wanted to do that, I’d skip BP altogether and just read Reddit. Reading this was my nightly pleasure. Now it’s too frustrating to be anything but aggravation.

Another Update: April 2024 - So now some of the issues from my last update have been fixed. The app doesn’t crash as much. However, now the content pages are broken. Many of the posts have no formatting, so the heading is as small as the rest of the text. Additionally some of the posts, especially those that are basically just a bunch of products with links to the mothership, get truncated after one line, so you can’t even read the entire post. The censorship is on overload with words being “bleeped” in text form, words that really don’t need to be. If it weren’t for the community in the Panda community, I wouldn’t bother. No change to my rating. Update: March 2024 version 1.59.0 broke the entire app - won’t open at all now! I am revising my entire review from Jan 2022. I enjoy Bored Panda a lot. Lots of content to make me smile, laugh, and wonder what is wrong with so many people. Granted, this is content from around the internet that can be found in plenty of other places, and very little is original, but that’s what is nice about a curated website/app. It’s a one stop place to go to read it and easier to navigate than Reddit. Lots of decent people in the community too. The app on the other hand I would give a D at best, maybe even a D-. The app constantly has issues loading content, especially when you get to the bottom of a post and you tap the button to “Load ___more”. If there are, say, 80 posts, you might get to see 50 before it refuses to load any more. The app frequently kicks you out if you’re signed in, and the comments seem to have trouble loading now too. Finally, if you plan to use this app while holding your phone with only one hand, just don’t. The side swipe feature, which many people complain about based on the reviews I’ve read, will not be removed nor improved. It’s next to impossible to swipe to scroll without eventually swiping in a way that the app interprets as a side swipe, and that will load the next post and you will completely lose your place on the previous post. Beyond frustrating!!! I am finding it easier to just visit the website over using the app. Unfortunately, I just don’t think the developers care enough to do anything about this anymore. UPDATE 02/27/24 Unfortunately I think this app is just shy of being abandoned by the developers. It gets an occasional update but to fix what, I don’t know. It seems to be getting worse. The latest issue that is prevalent is the fact that the app reloads every time you switch apps or your device goes into standby. I have an iPhone 14, so a new enough phone that this isn’t a lack of memory problem. Apple has memory management designed in a way that this should t happen on a properly designed app. But every time I am in the middle of a post and I get a call, put my phone down and it goes into standby, or even switch apps, it resets and I am back at the top of the posts as though I just launched it. There are several other issues including slow low times, crashes, HTML leaks, and others, but I can no longer recommend this app. You’re better off just going to the site in Safari or another browser.

They still have some entertaining posts but also a lot of stuff I don’t care to read about. Even if I wanted to read a story/caption I can’t because it only shows me one line. Can’t forget about the many many ads.

The ads are ridiculous. Full pop up ads like you’ve downloaded a cheap game. I think the developers are trying to kill this app. Oh well…another good idea bites the dust.
