This official app is a portal for exploring the diverse lands and heritage sites managed by the U.S. Forest Service. A powerful exploration tool, this app allows you to discover forests near you and can help you explore each destination's points of interest. Use this app for easy access to forest facts, natural, cultural, and historic information, offline and GPS maps, recreational opportunities, and other essential visitor information to enjoy our National Forests and Grasslands. The perfect companion for your next forest adventure or armchair travels, each app was developed by the forest unit’s rangers and interpretive staff and features a variety of content, including educational audio tours and natural and historic imagery. Plan your itinerary of things to see and do with easy access to information regarding recreational opportunities, trails, maps, and visitor centers. Each forest destination can be downloaded individually from the portal, allowing you to stay up to date with your favorite destinations through push notifications alerts for closures and events. Connect with Visitor Centers and Ranger Stations using one-tap calling and submit valuable feedback or report concerns with surveys. OnCell has worked closely with each forest as the official provider of their mobile apps. You can expect additional forests to be added to this app over time, as the U.S. Forest Service continues it's commitment to provide exciting and relevant visitor information in easy to access formats.
USFS App review.
I like the USFS app, as it is very informative and extremely easy to use!
Updated app
Since I’ve updated the app, nothing is working. Can’t pick a forest or maps. 06oct23
No Landscape Mode
This looked promising, but it’s not designed for use on an iPad, since it will only appear in portrait mode. I haven’t actually tried to use the app, so maybe if you’re using it on an iPhone or you like to hold your iPad upright, it might work for you, but to me it’s very annoying when apps will only orient in portrait mode.
Great application.
Offer very good information for your awareness.
Need multiple national forest maps
I downloaded the app and then wanted to download all the national forest maps that I expect to visit in the next year. Unfortunately, as soon as I downloaded the first one (chosen at random and not the most important one for me to have) all the options to download others disappeared. Does the app only support one at a time or is it just a poor interface that is hiding all the others? I’m not sure, but either way this app has problems.
Great info!
This app has great info. But I was hoping to have more access to the free maps one would receive when visiting these forests.
Cumbersome app
If you choose a forest from the list of forest, it basically downloads a whole new app, and it can be difficult to get back to the main app menu. If you choose a forest from the map, it may end up spinning and spinning while not letting you cancel and look at something else.
