Love Slack, not the update
Slack is essential to my work. It seems that you can no longer simply click the " " to start a new direct convo, you have to click and select from a drop down now. Who thought that was acceptable?
Worst Productivity App Ever
This application is a terrible idea. Particularly when used as an instant messenger application. There's no way to separate out and priotize things needing immediate attention from general messages. Look elsewhere.
Buggy and impractical
The focus keeps going back to the main chat when you are chatting in a thread. So annoying! There is no system of tabs to pin multiple conversations around. And finding back your messages is a nightmare.
Updates lag behind website releases
Slack as an overall product is great. However, the App Store version of this application seems to be updated much less frequently than the version released on the Slack website. There is also an occassional conflict between Slack and Microsoft Remote Desktop. When Slack notifications come in it will sometimes cause both applications to lock-up until one of them is force quit.
"slack quit unexpectedly"
Slack is constantly crashing on my mac. Nothing helps. Have tried restarting my laptop, reinstalling slack, updating to the latest Mac OS, etc. Its extermely frustrating and makes it harder for me to do my job. More reason that my company should look into another tool to use.
Grinds my computer to a halt
At random intervals in the day, Slack grinds my computer to a halt by consuming a bunch of CPU. I don't know what it's doing, but such disruption to my other tasks.
beware of malware | can't read minds
3/18/2023 Their stupid AI cannont understand customers' reported issues, so everyone gets the same auto-stupid reply, ""Hi there, We'd be interested in hearing more about this issue. When you have a moment, please navigate to your app's "You" tab - "Preferences" - "Send Feedback" to flag this with our support team and provide some logs we'll need to investigate. We'll be happy to help!" Logs will absolutely NOT help the issues reportd. -100 3/2023 Virus detection app has alerted to several infection files embeded 9 nested folders deep. I going to try to use Slack via web instead of this company's frustrating, dangerous, unethical app . Developer's response on Aug 25 is NOT helpful. They don't even address any of the issues in the review such as provide some examples of format for keywords or whatever triggers stupid notifications. They tell all users to just contact them, yet NOBODY replies to those. Hence, less a star, but should be NONE. 8/24/2022 A non-profit org uses Slack for their volunteers, so it is NOT my choice. I've blindly set ways to use it for about 4 months, but noticed that I have not received any notifications for the past month. I log in and all my preferences are as they were a month ago, i.e., no changes. Slack's "help" is absolutely NO help and blames the user. In setting up notifications, there are NO examples of instructions such a keywords -- does it require or use hashtags, at symbols, or what????? The user reviews for the most recent version is terrible. The latest issue is some "app" called Greetbot in which I originally set it to "mute" and then stopped receiving notification of each and every volunteer that joined Slack for this organization. Well, that was until today and now I get a gazillion per day. The iOS app version seems even worse, according to user reviews, in which problems with notifications have been a persistent issue for years. Slack's response is to delete and reinstall said app, to no avail.
