Phone is not able to identify when the phone is flipped and when the phone is tilted upside down. It needs to use the proximity sensor to know that. Reply: Proximity sensor is required to differentiate if the phone is placed upside down on the surface or is still in air. Think of me using the phone when I'm lying on the bed. Now it is going to silent mode which it shouldn't. Check Flip DND app on playstore. It works perfect, and can differentiate in- pocket mode also
