The content deserves 5 stars but I found the chapters a little too large. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to use the program in portrait mode.
My experience with this app has been nothing less than phenomenal. Never have I ever been more invested in a language app. To the creator, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm having a wonderful time. わたしは、Human Japaneseがだいすきです! (I really don't care if that's correct.. I'm only 1/3 through) 10/10
Please make the use of Romaji optional or replace them after learning Hiragana in the book. If you already know at least some vocabulary, seeing Romaji is just distracting and reinforces bad learning behavior. It hurts to see that all the time. Otherwise, this series has been great, because the explanations are extremely well done and the added cultural background information makes it a lot more interesting and fun to read than any other text books I've tried.
In my ongoing attempts to learn Japanese, I have been through many apps and books. This is one of the most outstanding learning tools I've worked with to date. Much of the mystery of WA versus GA is cleared up here and the breakdown of ichidan vs godan verbs is exceptionally well done. I wish I'd known of this app when first starting out! Get this app if you're planning to study Japanese. You won't go wrong.
I am quite disappointed by this app. It sounded so good in theory but where it fails for me is in giving lists of vocabulary with almost no help learning them. At the end of a chapter with several sets of new words in it there is just a quiz of ten multiple choice questions. Basically you're on your own for hours trying to memorize them with no context. For the cost of the app I think that is poor.
Seems like a nice app but with no way to turn kanji on in early chapters it's not great for self-studiers who aren't complete beginners.
My least favourite thing is that there is no portrait rotation mode. I have to use third party rotation app. Great lesson content as it explains the 'why' of things not just pure memorisation. And can always inspect text if you forget part. It would be nice if the chapter names were more specific for example I think how to say 'i like x' was in a chapter that didn't mention that anywhere in the name which would make revision harder.
