This is the official app from Space City Weather, the hyperlocal Houston weather site from Eric Berger and Matt Lanza. The SCW app brings to your mobile device everything from the site, and more, including: - Daily weather forecasts, weather topic discussions and detailed coverage of major weather events - Current conditions put the stats Houstonians care about most front and center. - Hourly and 7-day forecasts - National Weather Service (NWS) radar, weather discussions and alerts - Conditions and forecasts for 5 locations in the Greater Houston area: Houston, Hobby Airport, Conroe, Galveston, Katy - Notifications of new blog posts and urgent weather news - Clean, simple design for easy browsing and quick loading - Our usual nerdy humor What the SCW app does NOT have: Ads and tracking. We respect your privacy.
Weather forecasting is sub par and the witty banter is annoying
2024 has not been good to these guys. They called late Feb as the last chance for 40’s - which proved wrong half a dozen times afterwards. Then they said the MS 150 weather would be mild and not windy. Then I have to sift thru their banter and opining on how terrible Houston weather is to get to an actual forecast. Guys, you are not Jimmy Fallon or James Colbert. Stick to just the weather and I’ll pay attention again.
My favorite weather app but…
I love using this app and I love the reports done on the weather. Unfortunately, no matter how many times I update the app or my phone, the app shuts down as soon as I tap the most recent story. Just have to stick to the webpage
Great product, mixed utility
Great predictions, but their weekly weather forecast usually shows the past week instead of the forecast. If I wanted a bad app, I would have kept using Weather Underground.
Too many glitches
The app consistently has glitches pop up with the current one freezing (no pun intended) the temperature on December 27. I uninstalled and reinstalled after it was stuck on December 13 so it’s apparently a wider issue. The one thing it is good for, Matt’s predictions and summaries, is up to date but those can be easily found on his website. I hope the glitches are fixed soon!
Home page glitch
Front home page is stuck on weather on Aug 4
Ghost of Summer Past
I had to delete the app and reinstall to get rid of the forecast still showing highs of 104° and 105° in late October, but the articles are the main value.
Review
App keeps crashing for me for whatever reason …..
- Forcing KIAH for Houston as the primary observation station - Updating news as well when pulling down to refresh on the home tab - Bringing emphasis to the latest post on the phone (small) screens as well
