Carry your favourite Clear Sky Charts (CSC) in your pocket! Amateur astronomers in North America monitor local sky conditions using the CSC web sites which provide a very detailed 48 hour color coded observing forecast chart for cloud cover, transparency, seeing and other factors. This app contains a database of more than 6000 forecast locations in Canada, the USA and Mexico and can check for new updates. The launch screen monitors up to four or five favourite observing locations. Each square represents one hour and the colors vary from dark blue (excellent) to white (very poor) conditions for observing. A red line indicates local midnight and there is a last updated timestamp. Tapping on any preview chart will open a menu of options that allows you to (i) see a more detailed chart with legend, (ii) map the chart location, (iii) open the CSC web page, (iv) select a different chart location to monitor, (v) remove unwanted charts or (vi) share one of your charts via email, text message or social media. Locations Services can help you find nearby CSC locations when you travel. Refer to Attilla Danko’s excellent CSC web site home page for complete details on interpreting the preview and detailed charts: http://cleardarksky.com/csk A complete PDF user manual is available on my website: http://anythingbinary.com/iphone/myCSC/myCSC iOS User Guide.pdf This app is no longer free. A portion of every copy purchased will go to Attilla Danko to help support the ongoing operation of the Clear Sky Charts site.
Crashes immediately on start with certain charts.
Every time I add my nearest location, Solomons Island, MD, the app crashes immediately. When I try to reopen it, it crashes again making it unusable. It works with other locations, but they aren’t near me.
Not up to date
This app hasn’t worked on my iPhone for years. It literally crashes as soon as it starts loading.
Crashes when deleting charts
I can’t use this app any more because it repeatedly crashes every time I try to delete a chart. It also won’t let me delete the Winter Star Party chart; it keeps coming back. I deleted the app.
Essential for the Amateur Astrophotographer
I have been an astronomy obsessed amateur astrophotographer for three years now. I rely heavily on my phone; there are three apps which I use every single time I set up for a night.. This is one of them. Gives accurate info in an easy to understand format... What more could I ask?! On those nights where clouds ruin the fun, I often roam the map, salivating over the clear skies of locations far from mine. In fact, every time I travel, this is the first app I open to see what the night sky will hold for me when I arrive!! It would be cool if the app had some additional features, but none are even worth mentioning because the app is FREE. Considering my other must-have astronomy apps cost embarrassing-to-admit amount, I couldn't be more pleased with myCSC!
Fast to open, but lacks key info!
So, which *two* Clear Sky Clock indicators are being shown?! Likely, it's the top two--cloud cover and transparency--but *seeing* would be useful to include, too! Please give us an option so that the full CSC is shown! That would be incredibly helpful--more than seeing 5 clocks! There should also be an optional legend. And, one so a single tap moves to the full screen display.
App force closes as soon as u open it!
This app has a major bug and force closes as soon as it is opened. It used to work beautifully on older iOS versions . It's has been completely non functional since January 2015
Not worth even a cent
Functionality doesn't exist. Shows 5 preloaded star charts and doesn't do anything else. Not worth the 1.99.
Bug fix to stop crashes when a site location is no longer supported on the Clear Sky Charts website. Doing a new installation and chart update will clear the outdated sites from the app database. An error message will display if currently selected locations are removed in future.
