Bring MacOS App Into 21st Century
It is sad that the MacOS desktop app dial stops at 500 Mbps. With the fibre connections of today, would it not make sense to have the dial go to 1000 Mbps like the iOS versions? And yet another MacOS update released (Mar '23) and still a 500 Mbps dial. IPv6 support would be nice, too.
Great app needs search feature
I've been using this app for years and it can be very helpful but there are time when I want to ping a server at a distant location. I can do that on the web version but not on the MAC app on my computer. Please add search feature and I'll give it five stars.
Does what it says on the tin
Useful for troubleshooting and benchmarking, but REALLY needs a way to write a short note on each test so I can keep track of other details. That'd bring it up to 5 stars for me.
Solved my problem
I recently upgraded my home wifi with a new Linksys MX4200. I use Spectrum for my internet access at home, (don't have many options). Anyway, the new Linksys unit became my primary with two of the old units set up elswhere in the house to act as children/secondary units. All worked great at first but after a couple days the wifi speed degraded and it began to take forever to find a website, (over 2 minutes). Once I had the website I could use it with only a slight degradation in speed (per ookla). I though it was my provider and contacted them. With them on the phone we went through the usual reboot modem, etc etc. but as we chatted I mentioned that I was using ookla speedtest to verify connectivity speeds. The servie rep said that they too use a 'version" of ookla so if i wanted to use the app I had installed it would be fine. When we couldn't resolve the problem he said he would (Shocker!) schedule a service call to my home. I am sure he did this because he realized that I knew a little something about what was going on as it has never happened before. So, I decided to attach my Mac directly to the modem, bypassing the Linksys router and run speedtest again. It turned out that I had to get Linksys on the phone because ookla showed my speeds above contract when connected directly. Linksys rep ran some diagnostics and a reconciliation app and we used speedtest throughout the process until it was resolved. Without ookla I'm sure I would have been on the phone several more hours including an inperson visit from the provider the next day.
Super Helpful
Love this app! Being that I work for an AV production company, this app is super helpful when it comes to measuring our mobile internet connections at various job sites for video streaming.
I use this all the time
Especially now that so much work happens remotely, I find myself relying upon Speedtest to give me an accurate picture of my upload and download speeds before starting a Zoom session, an upload of music or video files for clients, or even before watching a movie on my laptop in a new environment! Thank you, Oookla!
Always Been My Go-To App! Have Recommendations To Improve Fxn.
Prior to 2022, when I was on a Spectrum 500 Mbps plan, it has always worked flawlessly 90% of the time over the past 3 to 4 years, over Ethernet. In Febuary, moved up to 1 Gig on a 20 bucks upgrade special offer, and that's where the Fun ended ... And, then unfornately, Spectrum Honolulu Server dropped out of the Top listed Local Server menu, so I have to use Other HNL Server's. 1. Recommend an New 3 Gig App, as the Internet Infrastrucrute continues to Upgrade Services that now includes BOTH A'symmetrical & Symmetrical Fiber' services, in HNL, and the mainland. 2. Adding a Server Zip Code or Area Code would be spiffy for Search result's. 3. Expanding the the Live D/L & U/L Server Speed & Jitter Graphic's in Red & Green, would may get the attention of NASA. Thx, DSM At The 808.
