You can't click open a folder in Finder and find all photos in it. Can't migrate image assets to another photo management program without losing organization and edits. Can't export an accessible backup to an external drive while retaining your album/folder organization. Use Photos Takeout to make a human readable backup of your photos. Even if you do auto-back ups on Time Machine, this added layer of protection is useful because Time Machine overwrites older backups, so you could still lose data. Remember, iCloud is a syncing service, NOT a backup. Your photos are precious, irreplaceable. Keep them safely backed up in an accessible format with Photos Takeout. Photos Takeout makes it incredibly easy to get photos and videos out of Apple Photos, organized exactly as you like. --- HOW IT WORKS - Select Photos Library: Must be your Photos system library - Select destination: e.g. Mac, Dropbox, Google Drive etc. - Select one or more Years, Albums or Days (Moments) - Use the default export options or customize - Click Export. That's it. App includes a User Guide. For help, email us via the app for prompt human-powered support. We don't do automated or canned replies! App is compatible with Photos for Mac, it's not for iPhoto, Aperture or other photo management programs. --- System requirements: Intel or M1 Silicon Mac with macOS 10.12 and higher, 64 bit (Monterey, Big Sur, Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra and Sierra.) IMPORTANT NOTES: * Source library for Photos Takeout MUST be the same as your Photos system library. * Photos library must be compatible with the Mac on which Photos Takeout is installed.
OKAY but takes timestamp from date of export
All files will have the date changed to the actual date of the export. - Not funny and therefore I will not use it but now I turn to osxphotos and write my own export function incl setting the >right< time and date of each picture.
Okay
Since apple forced the revised filestructure on photo users I no longer can do a copy of my pictures by myself but need a tool. This tool seems to fit purpose and it actually does copy and create folders by year and month... BUT... the problem is that it completely ignores the actual dates as all copies/exports have now the SAME DATE AND TIME (the time when I ran the export!) but sorted in a year and month folder. It should keep its original / modified date and time stamp!!
Gets the job done
I wanted access to a clean copy of my photo library. This does the job. The UI takes a bit of getting used to but makes sense after a bit. I ran into one quirk (double .JPG.JPG extensions) in what turned out to be some unusual library entries. The developer was super-responsive, quickly diagnosing the unusual photo attributes that caused it and releasing an update to avoid the symptom.
basic functionality is there, support is not
You can export photos as promised; that's the key point here. But, the app won't remember its settings between launches, the settings option is inaccessible, and the "Contact Us" menu item doesn't do anything. This last point is important, as this is the only way to get support.
Excellent Customer Service
I want to give a shoutout to the amazing customer service I received from the Photos Takeout team. My computer setup was being tricky, and they patiently helped me troubleshoot all possible issues, and made sure I was taken care of. Much appreciated!
does not export
I was hoping it would solve my problems but after paying for an upgrade, i select ono the albums to export and it tells me the number of photos in each album and the size, but when i click export, it says"Nothing to export here" and does not do what it is suppose to.
