Use Network Speed Tester to measure the actual transfer speed of your local wifi or wired network. A graph helps you see changes in realtime. Optimize your wifi network by moving or placing your wifi router until you reach the best results. Make sure to also download the free iOS Client App for even simpler speed tests between Mac and your iPhone/iPad or the Apple TV. Example Uses - Verify your network components (swiches, router) to find bottlenecks in your wired network - Optimize the placement of your wifi router, try different locations until you get the best network performance - Measure impact of wifi range extenders - Find the best spot for watching streaming movies in your home Features - Accurate performance measuring of your network using client-server technology - Test local NAS / filesystem - Get actual real-world network throughput and average speed - Graphical visualization - Find test servers automatically via Bonjour services - Export data to tab text format To make a proper measurement, you need to have either two Macs in your network, or one Mac and an iOS/tvOS device. (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Apple TV are supported) The Mac will act as a server, the other device as the client for visualizing the results. You can also test via a local NAS / filesystem.
server crashes within a few seconds
I was really hopeful this could help me diagnose some issues with my router placement. But when I start the test from the client app on my phone, it receives data for only a few seconds before the server app on my computer crashes and the test stops. Bummed that I'm out $4 and more bummed that I can't get the data I was hoping for.
Frequent Crashes
Not bad but the app crashes frequently on macOS Monterey 12.5.1.
Not to be used to test wifi router speeds
Says rignt on the interface (Not Accurate).
junk
useless
Works Well...
Allowed me to test out my mesh wifi network node placments - 20 minutes and I had optimized my network. Quick simple easy to use - what more could you want...
Keeps closing
Only runs for 3-5 seconds then force closes. love the idea but not working. Please help!
useful to find bad cables and to site wireless access points
This is a great tool for measuring network throughput and helping to figure out transmission problems. I had a bad cable termination somewhere in a transmission chain and this helped me find it. I was also able to use this to move around my wireless AP to get good signal. I’d love to also see packet loss and latency in the graph in the future since those factors also change.
Testing via NAS/Filesystem allows testing without a second Mac or iOS device. Requires macOS 10.15 or higher.- Interface improvements - Updated for macOS 12 Monterey
