HomeHelper is an app that connects your macOS video surveillance system to HomeKit. It is designed to work in conjunction with SecuritySpy, the premier CCTV software for Mac (read more at securityspy.com). With HomeHelper and SecuritySpy, you can set up rules to initiate recording from HomeKit events (e.g. "if the front doorbell is pressed, start recording in all downstairs cameras"). You can also set up rules to set HomeKit accessory states based on camera events (e.g. "if the front door camera detects motion, turn on the outside lights"). HomeHelper provides the following features: - Set up HomeKit Triggers to initiate camera recording/alarms from HomeKit events - Set up HomeKit Actions to perform whenever a camera detects motion - Triggers can also invoke Schedule Presets to set camera recording modes - Allows flexible rules that can include multiple accessories - Easy to use interface
Works well but
The functionality of the app works well and is simple to setup and use but, I would like to be able to minimize or hide the window. Ideally if it could be in a windowless state and run in the menu bar would be great too.
Functionality is great. Developer very responsive
The original release of this app had a few issues but the developer was very responsive and worked with me to help pinpoint and fix the problems I found. Now I am able to use it every day for my needs to trigger camera recording based on HomeKit motion sensors. The only reasons for 4 stars versus 5 is one I understand is beyond the developer's ability to fix (i.e. are likely current Apple limitations). Those are A) the actual HomeHelper window has to be always visible - you can't hide it so it always takes up some space on the screen (I try to tuck it into a corner for the most part). Knowing that apparently the app can't be hidden and still work (again, Apple's current restriction), maybe the developer can resize the always-displayed window to take up less space. I'm sure this will somehow get sorted out either by the developer or Apple will allow these kinds of apps to be minimized or something.
Needs work
The app might be nice if it would actually let me see all my devices to choose from. The list has no scrolling functionality so a lot of devices do not show. Due to this, the app is useless for me.
