About 4 out of every 10 consumers of electricity in Ghana is intentionally or unintentionally engaged in some form of illegal consumption. These include illegal connection to ECG's distribution lines, faulty meters, burnt meters or tampered meters. These issues significantly affect ECG's revenue, which is vital for covering operational costs and making regular payments to upstream electricity suppliers, including independent power producers.
