Updated: removed from my network
After my last review they updated week ago and problems gotten worse. Completely removed from my network and lost my trust to BD. Worst part was blocking to access to App Store, something Apple should look into it. I believe this is a violation for Apple.
Bitdefender Box 2
I have been using Box 2 for a couple of days now. I use it as a standalone router as it was having compatibility issues with my Linksys WRT3200ACM router. So far, it has met all my expectations! Highly recommend. 👍🏼
Seriously Flawed Technology
This device created enough annoying problems with my network that I had to completely remove it after a year of trouble shooting. The problems were random and impossible to force duplicate. Tech support, although friendly, was worthless. They told me the only way to address the problem was to capture the issue with a 3rd party app. I was unable to make them understand that the problems were random and sometimes days between events. So, now a “Bitdefender Box” is sitting unused with ZERO recourse with the manufacturer. DON’T BUY THE HARDWARE UNTIL BITDEFENDER GETS THE BUGS OUT! Zero stars is how I would rate this device if I could.
App does not refresh without a manual close
The app is just ok. It's fiddley and requires a regular manual close and restart for it to refresh. Not enough options in settings to control and manage alerts. Doesn't always save changes. That goes back to having to restart it a lot. Since this app is the only way to manage the Bitdefender Box, it makes that experience less than ideal. Also does not support more advanced features like port forwarding.
Time lag in certain use cases
Overall like the product so far. Two user journeys that need improvement is refresh of the new guest devices. I get the push notifications of a new device being added to the network but when I go through the notification the device does not show up in the guest network. At this point to have to kill box mobile app and open it again to see the new devices load. Also one setting a new device as family managed it takes sometimes several minutes for the agent install option on the target device.
Box is really cool
So far so good 6 months of use. However it doesn't work with ATT hardware Router so I have to use as a standalone which in my case the 100mb rate is ok. Hope they fix this soon otherwise I would give a 5 star
Takes over your network
If you have specific DHCP reservations on your network, run away from this box (think IP cams, etc...). This thing takes over the DHCP reservations and randomly changes assignments when the power fails. Only install this box/app if you have a very basic network (computer, phone, tablet). Even their literature says not for complex networks. If a few IP cams constitutes complex, stay away!
