The Ultimate Campground Project app shows publicly-owned, non-commercial campgrounds across the entire United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. In this app you will find campgrounds ranging from full-service locations at state parks and Corps of Engineers parks to remote boondocking and back-packing locations with no facilities or services. It is based on data from the web-based Ultimate US Public Campground Project www.ultimatecampgrounds.com. Included are US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Fish & Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Corps of Engineers, Pacific Crest Trail, state parks and other state facilities, county and regional parks, municipal parks, utility company facilities, Indian reservations, military, Tennessee Valley Authority, non-profit (museums and conservation groups) and a handful of miscellaneous locations. NOTE THAT THIS APP DOES *NOT* INCLUDE PRIVATE/COMMERCIAL CAMPGROUNDS, ONLY PUBLIC. Current statistics: Almost 39,300 total campsites. Over 19,600 of the campsites are FREE! Over 23,700 of the campsites are $10 or under! This app is intended for everyone regardless of their camping interests - it can be filtered by the facility owner, such as Forest Service or county. Users can also filter on camping preference, such as Tent, RV or Back-Country, or even if it has showers or not. Mark locations as your "favorite." Get driving directions to the campground. An updated database for this app is available approximately every month so you have the most recent and up-to-date information available. For more info click the Support button. Clicking on a campground location on the map shows available information about each location such as total number of camp sites, number of RV sites, number of electric hookups, whether there are showers and/or an RV dump station, fees, nearest town, phone number, elevation, web site and more. Read and leave reviews. Of course the app can only show what information that can be discovered for each location. Choose between Apple Maps and OpenStreet Maps. Note that this app does NOT contain information on commercial campgrounds such as KOAs. Military campgrounds are included because they are government-owned, but in most cases their use is limited to active-duty and retired military personnel. Send the location data to our Road Trip Planner app to help you plan your next camping trip! Import routes from a GPX file. Easily search the Internet for more info on each location as well as download public Flickr images that are geotagged as near the location. In an effort to continually improve the accuracy of the data, users are encouraged to submit corrections and suggestions. This app is functionally similar to the iPhone / iPad app with a similar name.
Very useful utility
I think of this app as a "utility" more than an application. It isn't fancy or slick, but it is very good for finding PUBLIC campgrounds and getting the key information about those campgrounds to help decide where to stay. Ignore boneheads like the guys who don't understand what a public campground is - it means public owned (federal/state/county/military/ etcetera). If you are looking for privately owned famiily / resort campgrounds with swimming pools and such, this is not the app for you. I use both the Mac and iOS versions and they work for me. Public campgrounds are great!
Great Database, Not great functioning
I used this app on a friend’s phone and it was amazing and very helpful during our roadtrip. However, I bought the mac version of the app and I’m not able to select any campsite to get more information on it, and whenever I click on a site from the list bar, the app crashes :/ Don’t know why this is happening, but seems to be a developer issue. I’m running 10.9.5 OS. Would love if this could be fixed, as this app has a ton of potentional.
useful and thorough
I wasn’t quite sure what I’d be getting, but I am quite pleased with my purchase. It costs much less than a a book, and is the only (and an excellent one) OSX ‘public camping’ app that I’ve seen. There are great options to filter (including price), plus the website of a place is either (and this is a preference to set) automatically opened or you can just ‘click here’ and more info appears (e.g. showers, when open during the year, price range, etc.). I also must say I find using it a nice little working-on-the-computer break….sometimes just seeing what’s near and available inspires me to get done with whatever I’m working on so I can go explore!
Too much missing to be a good source.
I was searching for camping places around San Antonio and areas west of town. I’d read up on 7 or 8 places in the area between Castroville and Boerne and was hoping for more detail from this App. Unless I’m doing something wrong, this App didn’t have ANY of these campgrounds in their database at all! I started out with ALLSTAYS Camp & RV App and suggest you use that too, instead of this one; its Free and much more complete. Just read that this app only includes Public Camps, I guess that means government owned, and not privately owned Campgrounds where the public might want to camp. I took it to mean anywhere the Public could camp, but I was wrong. In the area I was searching, there is at least one State Park missing from this App, but it isn’t much of a campground anyway. But, I see no need for an App that doesn’t include every campground that I might want to use, whether it be Public or Privately owned. When you need a place to park your rig, you don’t often care who owns it and often not even how much it might cost, if you’re tired of looking for a place tonight! Can I get a refund?
This is truly one of my favorite apps
I have this app on both my iPad and my iMac. Finding free campsites easily and accurately is a snap with this app. Never a crash, and so far, never a misplaced or closed campsite. Thanks!
Keep Your Money
This app is not an ultimate campground project app in my opinion. It is Google Maps. I wish I had kept my money.
Not worth the money
A ton of campsites missing and those that are listed, more than 50% of the links don’t work.
