Description
CDTA’s SCOOT.
The Capital Region’s new scooters are friendly, fun and fully-electric! This mobile app will help you find a SCOOT vehicle, provide rack locations, offer pricing along with account creation and management. So get ready to SCOOT.

SCOOT, driven by CDTA, provides an exciting, fully-electric mobility option that supports active lifestyles while also offering a fun and easy way to explore New York’’s Capital Region. You’ll have access to SCOOT vehicles in Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga Springs, and Troy. Scooters MUST be unlocked from one station and dropped off at another SCOOT station. Riders must remain on roadways and we suggest wearing a helmet and remember – Lock It Up – when you are done riding.

Initial thoughts before launch (obviously excited about this)

Disclaimer, if I have to give a star rating for being able to post this review, I will give it a 5 star rating out of generosity and good luck. Anyway! THE APP The app itself seems to function well; it’s clear and easy to use. The map seems flawless and I hope CDTA adds MANY MORE pick up/drop off spots across the vast region these scooters are allowed to travel. I’d hate to have to go all the way up town just to have to bring it back down to one of the 3 downtown drop-off areas. We’ve used the well-established Lime, Spin, and Bird scooter share apps before. The CDTA app looks and feels comparable to them. Obviously without the program active, you can’t create an account or rent scooters yet - so that link in the app doesn’t take you anywhere. So far, so good. PRICING I am concerned about pricing for the app. $2 to rent a scooter and $0.25 each minute seems a bit high, especially at launch. Will there be discounts for locals, students, etc.? Also, will there be subscriptions (paying, say, monthly, for unlimited us). Comparing a city like Milwaukee, 3 scooter share companies all rent out for $1 with about $0.15 per minute of use. I wonder if the city will allow other companies to come in and stake their scootery claims. LOOKING FORWARD -I hope the company adds MANY MORE pick up and drop off locations. -Will leaving a scooter randomly in the city away from drop-off locations be possible after launch? -Will there be any discounts for maybe locals, students, educators, first-responders, vets, subscribers, etc.? -There is no exact date published on the site for launch. Please? :( -On other scooter share apps, it makes renters aware that sidewalks are prohibited. Can CDTA also make that concrete/clear on the app? -It would be amazing if CDTA could establish some highlighted overlay of safe and suggested travel routes in the app’s map.
