THE BEST ACTUAL MAP OF THE PARK Discover Central Park is built around an impeccably researched, geographically accurate map of the park, designed expressly for the purpose of discovering the park on foot. Containing literally hundreds of points of interest and historical footnotes, this is by far the most complete map of individual paths in Central Park; it is not just a repurposed google-maps map with little detail on the actual map, like that found in some competitors' products. Also includes a 'find me' feature to locate your self on the map. General app description: Discover Central Park - a beautifully-rendered, interactive map of New York's Central Park, containing most major landmarks, paths and roads. Bordering streets and subway stops are also indicated, as well as park activities such as boat and bike rental locations. You may tap on points of interest directly on the map to get more information, or select them from a list of more than a hundred sites to be shown their location in park. Discover Strawberry Fields, Sheep's Meadow, Bethesda Fountain, Summit Rock, Shakespeare Garden, Belvedere Castle, the Zoo and countless other NYC favorites for the first time, or for the 100th! Bonus features: Need to find the nearest bathroom? Central Park NYC includes the locations of all public restrooms in the park. Want some background information on that statue you are looking at? Most points of interest are augmented with information from Wikipedia and other public resources. Just tap on the map! Feeling lost? Owners of 3G iPhones and iPads can hit the 'find me' button and Central Park will show you exactly where you are in the park. (For iPods, as well as WIFI iPads, your general location will be indicated as closely as the available data allows, but this can be quite erratic in the park as there is very little positioning info to go on without GPS!)
Paid twice
So I paid for this app about a year ago on my iPod touch. Now I just got a iPhone and went to reinstall my apps, and ended up having to pay another $3 for this app that I have already paid for. Why is this?
More than just a map
But what a beautiful map it is! It has so many fascinating points of interest - I love that you can click on almost everything and find out something about it, even when you are not online. If you ARE online, you can even connect to wikipedia articles about each thing. It shows me where the bathrooms & drinking fountains are, too, just by tapping the SOS button. It even has a "find me" button. I love not getting lost in the park anymore, and knowing more about what I can find there. It's absolutely great.
A Basic Map
It's just okay as a map of the park, but doesn't scroll easily, and doesn't rotate from portrait to landscape. But helps if your lost though Maps works better.
Very good, overall recommended
Excellent map, GPS function works well. Some of the "additional information" is derived from Wikipedia. The Wikipedia articles do not shrink to the iPad screen - that is annoying and seems easy to fix. Also, the additional information derived from Wikipedia, while helpful, most often does not contain a picture of the Central Park site under discussion.
City Park NYC
Just got one of those new iPads and am spending some time in NYC. One of the first apps I downloaded was the Central Park NYC app since we planned to spend a day in Central Park--after all its springtime and found the app really helpful in the park. First, the park is so large and this app helps sort it all out. Location finder worked really great and no matter where we went in the park, this app provided great information of all the sites we visited--just like your own personal guide. For me, this app is an essential tool for navigating and exploring the park. Definitely was worth the price. I give it high ratings!
