Hiking Project is your comprehensive guide to the best hikes near you, wherever you are. With the thoroughness of a printed map, we offer full GPS route info, elevation profiles, interactive features, photos, and more. Like a guidebook, we suggest the best featured hikes to explore—either near your current location or in an area you search for. Local experts show you the highlights, challenging features, and insights you need to plan a great day on the trails. • Find over 74,000 miles of trail to hike with your crew. • New trails are constantly added to our incredibly detailed hiking database. • Your exact location is shown on the trail. • Downloaded trails work offline for when you’re off the grid. (No cell reception required!) • Enjoy high-resolution photos and detailed topographical trail maps. • We’ll sync with your to-do list and check ins on HikingProject.com. By using GPS, we can show your location on trails and vertical profiles. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
Great alternative to All-trails
My favorite hiking app. Live tracking and route elevation graph work well.
Not close to the amount of trails
This app is good if your looking at a particular trail. But it says there’s 0 trails by me. I live within walking distance to 3 major trails not on this app. And if you use the filter to find trails you have to be specific. You can’t check all distances and see all distances. If you put the max distance, you’ll see those trails only. Max distance is 20miles. You can’t put 20 miles and get all trails from 1 mile to 20. So unless you know the distance of the trail you won’t get options.
Central CA
Used the app this week to hike around central California. Great crowdsourced resource. Worked very well. Planning to use it on the climb to Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles next.
Best Hiking App Ever!!
The app works even when you don’t have signal. It has helped me find my way on more then one occasion.
Recent update hurt performance
I’ve always loved this app. Recent updates have messed with the map performance though. There’s a lot of lag when scrolling and especially zooming in when a trail is visible.
Crashing and closing
The app has been crashing every time I open it in the past few days. A week ago the app worked great for a 5 mile hike through the woods with no cellular service. Today, it won’t even load fully before crashing.
Worthless
I live in one of the best hiking areas of the country, yet the app shows zero results. Not working or can’t easily be fixed within a minute or two? No problem: DELETE. There are way too many apps in the world (and on my iPhone). The world (and my phone) are a little better every time an app is deleted.
Bug fixes and maintenance.
