Very promising social media app
Most apps show you what THEY want you to see. Not this one. This allows you to reject algorithms and make your own. There's even a feature to mass-mute (or block) entire categories of accounts that you don't want to see posts from. If you use it right, you're only going to see what YOU want to see. Overall, probably the best user experience I've seen from any social media app, because it actually prioritizes it. I don't normally write reviews, but after many frustrations with Meta and Twitter (even pre-Musk, mind you), I want to be part of the change I want to see. Regarding the censorship allegations, I have never once seen or heard of any censorship, folks just seem to assume that any Twitter competitor is anti-free speech. Also Jack Dorsey isn't, and hasn't been involved for a long time now, lol
Samo as an art form
The UI is clean and easy to navigate, not very bogged down which is great, I appreciate the simplicity. I downloaded hoping to have a blank interface past discoveries, but the trappings of every other social media opened up like a bottomless pit before me. Would be refreshing to see a social media option with an ecosystem that flourishes when the user chooses for it to. Without the modern trappings of engagement protocols. One that exists for the sake of the user.
Good, and getting better
Miss the old days of Twitter? Well, this captures the vibe — but with modern things like better moderation tools, customizable feeds and and open protocol for creating them (if you are a developer).
Old reviewers should try again
This is no longer a closed beta. The app works well and the team are rapidly adding features.
No video?
BlueSky - it’s 2024. Nearly every social media app has the ability to add video. Get with it or get out of my way.
Don’t waste your time
Installed on my iPad and the display is still in a small box the size of a phone screen. Cannot find a way to access settings. Setting unavailable in app.
Not optimized for iPad or Mac
Hopefully soon
- You can now write custom alt text for gifs - The discover feed is now piloting a "Show more/less like this" tool along with better tracking of what you see to reduce duplicates and improve its ability to learn what you like - Fixed an issue that allowed you to incorrectly mute or block curatorial user lists. Muting and blocking only work on "moderation lists."
