Many words aren’t recognized
This app is really pathetic. It’s not on par with even a pocket dictionary, seriously. The claim that typing a phonetically similar word will pull up the correctly spelled word, doesn’t happen often. The search bar in my browser does a better job in this regard.

Abandoned app?
This app was off to a good start in the beginning, but it’s been over two years (!) since the developers last updated it. The age is starting to really show - iCloud syncing to iOS devices doesn’t work, which is why I originally bought this app in the first place. The UI is also very dated looking and doesn’t mesh with OS X’s new design. Finally, the icon could be better and simpler. I hope this app gets a serious update soon, otherwise I’ll just be looking for something else.
Missing words…
I just got this app and the word “Everybody” isn’t in it. Seriously? What else is it missing if it doesn’t have such a basic word?
$5 Resource?
Being a graduate student, a (good) dictionary is more the than just a needed resource but imperative. The available Thesaurus is almost worthless. I would like to see a current version of the American Heritage Dictionary as I use this regularly on my iPad.
Complaints by previous reviewers go unadressed
I noted two complaints in reviews from a year or more ago and thought the developer had likely addressed those shortcomings since they were relatively simple to correct. While OS x’s installed dictionary is ok, I wanted audio pronunciation and I assumed since copy and paste works in the OS X dictionary, it would also be a feature in WordBook. Wrong on both counts. Clicking on the speaker icon following the word does nothing even though the developer claims,”Fixed issue with audio not playing in latest Mac OS update.” And paraphrasing another reviewer, “Copy and paste isn’t included in an app in 2015?!” Another reviewer complained more than two years ago that WordBook dictionary did not include the commonly used conjunction, “whether” as in “whether or not” and it’s still absent. Unhappy to say I wasted $4.99.
It’s OK …
For the price it’s OK. Not much more. Not being able to copy/paste is a drag, the ‘voice’ doesn’t work no matter what we try and support is non-existent. I have Wordbook for the phone and it was a great app … simple, effective … I expected more with this, or at least to be a bit more robust. It gets the job done—whether that’s a recommendation or not will vary.
