Do you...
... have trouble remembering tens or hundreds of online passwords?
... write passwords down somewhere, even though you know this is not the safest thing to do?
... use the same ("cleverly" modified) password in multiple places, instead of using properly randomized passwords that offer the best security?
... sometimes wish you had a photo of a creditcard, passport or other document handy?
... want to securely store lots of other confidential information, photos, animated GIFs, office documents, you name it?
... want all this to be secure, but still very simple to use?

Then ◆The Vault◆ is for you!

The Vault provides straightforward, easy to use, secure storage for all your documents and other data, such as passwords, login credentials and any other confidential information. It can securely store any number of documents, screenshots or photos along with your confidential information.

* 256-bit AES encryption *
While storage and access is simple, The Vault uses rock-solid, industry standard encryption.

◆ ◆ ◆ WHY IS IT BETTER ? ◆ ◆ ◆

▸ See all features: bit.ly/TheVault-Features

▸ The Vault is very simple to use, yet it employs industry-standard encryption to keep your data safe.
(Some other payed apps do too, but some apps advertised as "secure" really do not, and for example save your data using a simple base-64 encoding: your information looks scrambled, but is as readable as plain text when you know how).

▸ The Vault can securely store photos and pictures; for example a scan of your passport, a photo of your credit card, or just the serial numbers of some equipment you own. Anything.

▸ The Vault can securely store *any* office or other document.

▸ The Vault can securely store - and play - animated GIFs.

▸ Securely storing photos and documents is as easy as drag-and-dropping them on an open Note.

▸ Proper random password generation

▸ Auto-shields sensitive information

▸ Securely synchronizes with The Vault for iOS! Please note that you need to have the SecureSync feature installed on your iOS devices for them to be able to SecureSync with The Vault for Mac.

▸ Supports Mojave Dark Mode

◆ ◆ ◆ TECHNICAL DETAILS ◆ ◆ ◆

This is the part that matters.
This is the part that is hard to get right.
This is the part that makes the difference between actual security and insecurity.

Claiming “military-grade” (or “industry standard”) encryption is meaningless.
Even claiming “256-bit AES encryption”, in itself is not very meaningful.

Example:
Claiming “military-grade” encryption and subsequently simply hashing a master passcode - e.g. using SHA, MD5, or, god forbid, nothing at all (!) - is NOT good.
What ís good is to use a proper key derivation algorithm such as PBKDF2, scrypt or bcrypt.

Another example:
AES is better than ancient algorithms such as Blowfish, Twofish or 3DES.
But even for AES: an app that does not combine encryption with authentication... is doing it wrong. Currently there is some consensus that the best construct is to first encrypt a message and then calculate a message-authentication code, instead of the other way around.

These things matter.

◆ ◆ ◆
The Vault uses PBKDF2 key derivation with an HMAC-SHA512 PRF, and HMAC-SHA256 Encrypt-then-MAC authenticated 256-bit AES encryption, using CommonCrypto functionality only. All cipher and MAC worker keys, as well as all salts and IVs, are purely random data. Keys and IVs are never reused. Each singular piece of data is encrypted with a unique random encryption key, and authenticated with a unique random HMAC key.
Your Master Passcode is never stored; and neither are the derived cipher keys.

Great on iphone but not mac

I've been using this for years on my iPhone and decided to spend the $25 to install on my Mac. I have been trying for months now to get the two to sync on Dropbox like it's supposed to. Today I tried to find more support than what is given on the app and found that their webpage has no support just a bunch of reviews. I cannot open this program in my Mac and I have the most current update iOS. It's very sad they have to give this review If you're using this on an iPhone it's totally awesome but watch out if you have a Mac.

Overcharged, Doesn't work

I just downloaded this app. It charged me $111.15. Crazy. It is also difficult to install, and requires using Dropbox, and when it asks to cofnirm the dropbox location I just get an error message. If you want to use it across different devices, it's another $9.99 charge. There is a clunky email address to contact support. So far no answer back. I hightly recommend not downloading this expensive app.

Developer very responsive

I bought the Vault for my Mac so I could sync passwords to the version already on my iPhone. When The Vault for Mac wouldn’t launch on my operating system, High Sierra 10.13.6, the developer responded immediately to my email, released a bug fix that took care of the problem, and asked me to get back to him if I found there was still a problem. (All was fine.) He also gave me tips about preserving the current Vault version so that if the application becomes incompatible with High Sierra in the future I can continue using the older version. (I can’t upgrade my system because I have expensive software that does not work on a 64 bit system.) I thought that was great customer service, and unlike so many other developers who are happy just to leave you behind if your operating system is not up to date.

As secure as it get's at the consumer level...

I am an IT pro and have seen a lot of security solutions: The Vault has been my personal go-to security measure for years. In that time, I had ONE issue…today and it was resolved in a matter of minutes by staff who obviously know what they are doing and are quick to react to any request for help. I recommend The Vault to my customers when asked what I use myself. It is a no-nonesense and simple application, but not short on features at all. I trust it and think you can too.

Great way to keep your secrets

Easy way to encrypt, store and sync passwords and other sensitive information across all my Apple devices (iMac, MacBook, iPad and iPhone). There are no periodic subscription fees and no limit to how many devices can be synced to your encrypted data. Information can be stored in notes that are created within the app or you can create a document in Word, Excel or other application and import it to The Vault. The documentation is good, and the customer support is excellent. 10/28/2018 Addendum A couple of weeks ago I installed an update to The Vault, and ran into some problems with it. It crashed every time I attempted to open any of my saved items, so I sent their support team an email describing the problem. I assumed that I would get a “we’re-looking-at-it” response within a few days. Instead, I got a response within about half an hour suggesting several actions I could take to resolve the problem. I tried them all but unfortunately none worked, so I sent another email. This was followed by several more exchanges with them. The next day I was notified that they had identified the problem, fixed it, and uploaded a new update to Apple’s App Store. The new update worked. All this started on a Saturday morning, so these guys worked through the weekend to fix my problem. That’s what I call great customer support.

I’ve used this for years on IOS and now on Mac

Does exactly what it needs to. Secure storage for passwords that I always have with me. I synch the data between iPhone, iPad, and now iMac. Periodically, I output all the data to a text file which is then printed out and put with the wills and POA stuff so executors can have access to everything. I highly recommend this product.
