The Solar Sphere provides current value of Kp-index derived from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center using data from multiple ground-based magnetometers. Also, current solar images are available in 4 different high resolution formats. The Kp-index quantifies solar disturbances in the horizontal component of earth's magnetic field with an integer in the range 0-9 with 1 being calm and 5 or more indicating a geomagnetic storm. For drone flyers, please only fly on solar KP Index less than 5.
Time for an update
GOES went offline December 7 2017. Need to retask for this. Now I can't see my sun spots except on the visible. LASCO is still my favorite tho.
Very nice
The app works nicely. I would like if you could pause and play the videos as well as scrub through them.
Watch
Kp numbers and sun views don't display on my watch. It's a shame I wanted to know the KP number just by looking at my watch.
It works!
Wow, it's amazing what people will whine about. This is a great time rendered view of the sun under different light spectrums as well as a sun shadowed view of its space emissions. It shows the aurora over the North Pole. What else is there really? Great reference for low banders working DX
Outstanding Application
The ONLY aurora application to show the forecast in motion, no other app does that, none. Use it daily to see the possibility of the Northern Lights in Alaska, kudos
Frivolous Implementation
It doesn't seem to me as if the creator(s) were very serious about this. "Use My Location" brings me the Aurora Australis, not the Aurora Borealis. There appears to be no way to check the status of the Aurora Borealis. I have very little hope of seeing the Aurora Australis if I go outside. I live in Virginia. There's more, but you get the idea.
This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon. Updated for iOS 10 and watchOS 3. Apple Watch users should upgrade to watchOS.
