UX/UI is Fire! 🔥
Honestly I am in love with this app, it helps me to keep my thoughts and ideas organized. UX/UI is sooo goood, minimalistic, not overwhelming and very easy/comfortable to use. I wonder if I am using free version can there be a glitch and all my stuff will disappear, or the content is safe and possible to be renewed if something epwrong happen with iPad etc?

This app used to be so great. I’ve used it for years, paid for the original tools, and even paid for the subscription. It used to be a great drawing and note taking app, but now it’s unusable. Drawings are unable to be closed and lead to hours of work being lost. I worked for hours today on a drawing and when the app froze after trying to switch notebooks, it crashed and the entire drawing was lost. A poor shell of an app for what it used to be. Will not be renewing. WeTransfer ruined this app.

I rarely do app reviews but Paper goes so far above and beyond in functionality that they deserve all of the praise. Paper is truly as close as you’ll get to having a physical moleskine notebook in your bag. It’s changed the way I use my iPad, now carrying it everywhere like I used to with my notebook. Now, no ideas get lost, brainstorms can happen anywhere, and my thoughts and journal entries are captured when they happen. It’s rare for an app to change behavior, but Paper has truly made meaningful impact to my day-to-day. Moving through the application, the detail in the animations and transitions makes for an overall natural feel like a physical notebook. The shortcuts, touch inputs, and Apple Pencil controls are so intuitive it feels like second nature. They are so thoughtfully designed, you start to wonder why other applications don’t have some of these controls. Paper team, if you read these… thank you. Truly. You deserve all of the praise and I’ll be looking forward to what’s next from this talented group.

I love the potential this app has, I have been using the pro version for a year now. One thing I hate though is subscription based apps; if Procreate and Goodnotes are aren’t subscription, it’s pretty hard to justify why anyone else should be. Here is what I feel needs to be added/changed for 5 stars and a continued subscription: 1. Picture cropping: the ability to crop in perfect circles, squares, and rectangles. Hand cropping sounds nice until you have to do it and can’t get a clean cut. 2. Grid: Zoom in grid is great and I love it, but I also want the option for a zoom out grid for halves, thirds, quarters, etc. I know there’s a grid page but if you have a photo for the background you can’t see it anyways. 3. Better Utensils: The watercolor brush has a band around the inner edge and is hard to layer, the fountain pen is jittery on the taper especially at larger sizes, for some reason most of the utensils do not write opaquely and it’s become a pet peeve. Please. This needs to be fixed. A ruler should also be added, as well as opacity and more size options. 4. Sharing: my family and friends love seeing my work, but they prefer it on my iPad because I can only export as a pdf. While exporting pdf is okay, the charm of the app is being able to flip through pages otherwise I can do the same thing in Goodnotes. Consider being able to export a book as a published website that you can share the link to ( like notion or craft). 5: Viewing: There should be a button to view your work without the ability to accidentally write or move images. There should be two viewing modes. The first is flipping, where the angle of the pages are not as sharp so images don’t look as skewed and the pages are bigger; second is full screen viewing and scrolling can be a flip animated that can be toggled on of off in the individual book setting or as a whole. 6: Update Pexels: the same images are seen over and over again, but it’s the biggest source for images. Consider adding in the ability to browse photos or refresh them. 7. Add the ability to Anchor photos and group them 8. Swapping Journal pages between journals: I can only see the pages in the journal I’m working on but what if I want to import a page from a different journal? It’s hard to do 9 Adding elements/ saving stickers: Anything like a photo, drawing, writing, text, etc., should have the option to be saved as a sticker and used in any page and journal. It’s impossibly difficult to do! 10. Cover and Band Colors: There no reason why you should not be able to choose and band color and cover color as well as make your own gradients, even Craft as this option. The background of the journal when flipping should also be able to be adjusted for each journal. A fun feature, but totally unnecessary, would be to have pages that are halved or cut out, like in a real scrapbook. So you can have a spread that looks different or interesting. This app could be wonderful, and I’ve overall enjoyed it so far. But it is still quite limiting and I would really love to see it grow! Hope my feedback helps.

Despite having the subscription business model that I despise yet so many business models now utilize, the glitches and bugs I have dealt with don’t justify the price nor the tools offered. While I love the *way* the tools work and the finished product I’m able to create, the constant issues the app experiences are making it more and more likely I end my subscription and advise anyone against this app. Continuously working on projects just to have the app glitch and erase the entire page has happened more times than the app cares to address. It’s ridiculous and I’d suggest any other app, namely procreate for the fixed price it’s offered at, for any creatives and GoodNotes (the non-subscription model of available) for any journaling note takers. Until the technical issues are fixed, because not even the “sync” or “backups” are working well enough to make up for all the problems, I’d suggest steering clear of this app and it’s adjacent endeavors.
