I have loved this app since I downloaded it several years ago & recommend it to everyone! I appreciate that unlike most apps I’ve tested, this one doesn’t immediately convert handwriting to text but instead allows you to double-tap when you’re ready to convert. I find that much less distracting than other methods! Nebo’s “note” mode has the ability to endlessly scroll in any direction, which is also apparently a rare feature that I needed. The “document” mode works wonderfully when I need to take general notes - sometimes it’s better than I am at deciphering my handwriting - and I love that I can add sections sketches and math amongst the normal text. PDF editing works great & only visibly lags when I try to load an entire textbook in, and even then has no issues once it’s loaded. Definitely the best note-taking app I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a lot!) and the pro version is a one-time purchase!! 10/10
United StatesThe perfect PDF/Note app with broken fundamentals
I work daily on windows, mac os, ipados, and android, regularly with PDF forms and drawings to annotate and fill out on all platforms. PDFs are everywhere! So how hard can it be to find a PDF annotation and note taking app that's cross platform, syncs, and doesn't cost an absurd monthly subscription? Shockingly hard! Until Nebo. What a stand out tool! Nebo nails every feature I feel should be standard for a cross-platofmr PDF and note taking application. I was happy to pay the one-time premium price on every platform. I want to sing Nebo's praises to the world of tech! BUT. I just can't quite yet. Using and editing text boxes on every platform is finnicky at best. Resizing text/changing font size is way harder than it needs to be. Text annotations are sometimes included in flattened exports, sometimes not, and there's no clear reason when it will go which way. The functional difference between documents vs notes is unclear and confusing. Cloud sync through Google Drive regularly signs itself out and must be manually signed back in. Even when signed it, the sync isn't fast or reliable enough to jump between platforms, it sometimes takes several minutes for a change to reflect, only after multiple reboots and resyncs. And as far as I can tell, there's no way to fill placed shapes with a color, as an example with white-fill to redact old text. Nebo seems to be in active development, so I'm still here for it, using it, working with it, hopeful it will only get better to use. So far as I can tell, nothing exists quite like Nebo, and I dearly hope it takes over the world of prosumer PDF and note taking. But first, it just needs to be better.

I have loved this app since I downloaded it several years ago & recommend it to everyone, but since the last update I can no longer use it to edit PDFs. When I zoom in to write and then make any action (like a pen or eraser stroke) the PDF scrolls to the top of the nearest page. Obviously this is incredibly annoying! I will update my review/rating to reflect my general experience when this is fixed. I’d also like to add that I saw another user report the same issue in their review, and the developer response was along the lines of “too bad, sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯” which was not particularly encouraging. If you don’t plan to fix this issue, please let me know so I can switch apps.

I used Nebo since last fall to take notes for college and everything was fine. But then little issues like freezing or deleting previously written lines started happening, but I assumed it was more on me. Today, a page that had 3 hours worth of notes was suddenly unable to open and is basically deleted. I paid for the full version and that still happened? I can’t even send a ticket, even thought I followed the directions, which means I lost those notes. This is unacceptable. Do not waste your money on this and get something else

My favorite things: The pen/brush engine feels so good to write with! The infinite canvas is my favorite tool for creating outlines for proofs. I used to just explode ideas onto graph paper. This feels as just as good/free and allows me to organize those ideas much easier. Disappointments: - A quick undo (like double tap) would be a huge improvement. - Being able to zoom in documents! - Let me pick white/light backgrounds even when I am in dark mode. Strange limitation - on the infinite canvas when you zoom in and out the app seems to struggle, and the screen can even briefly flash. This makes use at night less than ideal. Distant future: obviously I would love laTeX support.

I’ve tried several handwriting recognition apps and this is the best. Combined with an active Apple-type pencil, it continually amazes me how well it recognizes my scrawl. I’d love to see a few dedicated buttons added. For example, for adding current date and time, something I write down a lot in the type of documents I use. A simple journal format, with dates (please no affirmations or prompts!) would also make this more useful. Also a better listing format. However, these are quibbles; there isn’t a better handwriting recognition app out there. And the one-time fee is a huge plus. Get and get writing!
