LibreOffice Vanilla is a powerful office productivity application consisting of Writer (word processing), Calc (spreadsheets), Impress (presentations), Draw (vector graphics and flowcharts), Base (databases), and Math (formula editing). It can also open and edit text documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and drawings created in a large number of other applications like OpenOffice, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Visio, WordPerfect, Quattro Pro, Lotus 1-2-3, AutoCAD. Even documents created in historical applications such as MacWrite and ClarisWorks can be opened. LibreOffice Vanilla is based directly on the LibreOffice source code from The Document Foundation. It is recommended for users who want the convenience of installing from the App Store and getting automatic updates, compared to manually downloading and installing from The Document Foundation. Note that features implemented in Java are not present, like the HSQLDB embedded database engine.
Perfect for my Mac!!!
I have always used MS office I went to LibreOffice a couple of years ago. (per my husband) LOL that works on CP's. I loved it then and still do. I updated my Mac last night and when it came back up my free version was lost. I went to open a document I had made with it to find I didnt have it any longer I was so shocked. It was not good. I then went to my app store and seen I could still get but the Vanilla version was there to purchase. I said for 8.99 Heck YEAH!!!! I love this! I can not stress how easy it is to use. I have always liked excel but oh my goodness this version is far easier to use. Buy it Buy it Buy it. So VERY worth it. Tell everyone you know about it.
Perfect replacement for MS Office!
I upgraded my Mac and MS Office stopped working. Before I become a slave to Microsoft and pay for Office as a service (for the rest of my life) I thought I would try LibreOffice Vanilla. So far it's been great; I actually like it MORE than MS Office!
Good open source software
Good for typing and mostly compatible with doc and docx files
Optimized for M1
I decided to buy this version because it is optimized to run natively on the M1 chip while the free version isn't... And also because I believe it is a good thing to support the LibreOffice project, besides it is way cheaper than MS office and better than google docs IMO.
Optimized for M1
This app runs natively on the new M1, Apple Silicon chip architecture. The functionality and speed are as good or better than the old intel x86_64 version. Thanks to the LibreOffice team for this awesome upgrade.
Just download the fee one
Download the free libre dmg from the website.
Support the LibreOffice team!
These folks have been cranking out what is arguably the best open-source productivity suite available for macOS. It's been my go-to app for years in cross-platform or (shudder) Microsoft-centric environments. The "Vanilla" version lacks a few of the whiz-bang features of the full versions at libreoffice.org, but Vanilla has a couple of advantages over its big brother: one, it's an App Store app, so it auto-updates, and two, it has full support for Apple Silicon. That's well worth the few bucks it costs. Buy the app, and send some love to the LibreOffice devs!
