Old faithful that’s gotten really, really good
I think I have been using iA Writer forever. Usually for anything longform. I often try other apps but when I need pen to paper, as it were, I come back to Writer. I’ve never used it as my primary notes app. But I just started about a week ago. While I wasn’t paying attention Writer got all the features you need to manage your notes. Links between notes, clickable tags, saved searches, and more. It’s great.
Great app, small things
This app is great and allows me to focus on just the words without being distracted. There are a few oversights on a technical level, however. One I would like to point out is that if you are using a Mac to share your mouse and keyboard with an iPad, and you move your mouse off of a full screen IA writer to move the mouse to the iPad on the *left-hand side*, the sidebar for IAWriter stays opens the entire time and this is rather annoying.
Great for blogging!
I use iA Writer for drafting my blog posts. The markdown support is easy and suitable for basic drafting and note-taking, and the editing/style checks are super helpful for clearer writing!
Best Markdown Appo
It just keeps getting better.
I can no longer put up with this
After years of putting up with it, I have finally decided to ditch this app. It works great for short texts, but once you have a larger text, it starts overlapping words and sentences, and you have to wait several seconds - up to twenty seconds - for it to recover and show all the words again. This has always plagued this app, and I had hoped to see it fixed in updates, but nope. I now have the most powerful Mac on the market, with massive memory, but that doesn't solve it ether. So I am shifting to an app that doesn’t have this fundamental flaw.
$50 For a regular Test Editor
There is nothing special about this app. It does what every other text editor does. Do not waste your money.
You need to buy the app separately for iOS and macOS
I needed an editor for the iPad, and, yes, my fault I decided if I paid for the app on mac, it meant I could use it on all my devices. It was a mistake: you must pay separately for macOS and iPadOS. I am very disappointed that I spent $100 on a simple editor.
