HOW IT WORKS

Web Video Cast™ is a browser, which allows you to stream videos of movies, TV shows, and other media from the internet to a streaming device or smart tv. Web Video Caster grabs the video URL inside the web page, sends it to the streaming device (i.e. Chromecast or DLNA device), and then plays the video directly from the content provider. This ultimately saves your mobile device’s battery. It also detects subtitles on the web page. Web Video Cast™ does not host these videos. This is not a mirroring app.

GET STARTED

Follow these simple step-by-step instructions to start streaming:

1. Find a video online that you want to watch.

2. Make sure this video can play on mobile browsers without Flash.

3. Connect to your streaming device.

4. Play the video as you normally would. Or, click the play button on the toolbar.

PREMIUM FEATURES**

• No in-app advertising
• Most visited sites

**This functionality does not apply universally to all streaming devices.

LIMITATIONS & DISCLOSURES

As with all apps, there are some limitations we are aware of and want you to know about up front.

• We are in no way associated with any web media providers and we do not have control over the content they provide.
• Web Video Caster does not support nor play Flash or FLV videos.
• The app does not support tab casting, like the Chromecast extension for the PC web browser.
• We cannot do anything to fix issues that arise on the server side (media content provider) such as failure to play or buffering, which is especially common during heavy load times and weekends.

Great app with some serious problems and bad support

This is a pretty thorough review. This app is good—great even. I’ve used it for years and while the features never seem to change or improve, they are solid…for the most part. For context, while I started out with the free version, I’ve mostly used the paid premium version. PROS: 1. The video detection and playback is the best of any app I’ve found. Most apps fail or struggle to detect the video file but this one is so good it’s almost a little over zealous. 2. Settings. While there are some customizations I wish they had, the amount of settings you're given is pretty incredible and gives a lot of flexibility. I just wish most of them were baked into the app rather than in the iPhone settings. 3. The ad/pop-up blocking is next level. I don’t think any ad blocker app or privacy browser has been as robust as this one. If you stream from a lot of websites with ad and invisible overlay problems, this app will kill basically all of it with it very rarely causing unwanted problems. 4. Having multiple options for casting protocols is great. CONS 1. There’s a huge problem with the app not persisting with logins. I’m constantly kicked out of my various logins on streaming sites, social media (things like FB or Disqus for comment sections), and more. This might be due my occasional VPN use, but none of my other apps or browsers have that issue. Just this one. 2. Speaking of things not persisting, the playlist feature has some serious problems. Not only will the videos added not keep the names when I rename them, it actively removes videos added. In fact it acts like it’s reverting to old versions of the playlist. For instance one day I added 13 episodes to a playlist and renamed them all accordingly so it didn’t have the long unreadable names; but when I went back the next day it only had 10 episodes and only the first one was renamed. Instead of figuring out which ones were missing I deleted the entire playlist and started over, this time adding all 26 episodes and keeping the default names (there were a couple options and I made sure to save each episode with the one with the episode number in the name). I again went back the next day and it defaulted back to the playlist only having 10 episodes and that one renamed video, as if I never deleted the first playlist that had problems. This is super annoying and makes this feature useless. 3. The app will frequently crash, and even kick out my current streaming session (even if I’m not streaming through my phone) as if it randomly hits the stop or home buttons. The latter seems to happen more frequently on the installed app like on a Roku TV than on Chromecast. 4. The support is terrible. I reached out to them about CON #1 and they replied back a couple of days later asking for more details on what sites aren’t staying logged in. I replied back with a list and additional helpful details and they never followed up. I reached back out a week later asking if they found anything and they ignored me. Don’t expect support or improvements to the app, you get what you get. 5. Additional minor complaints: lack of gestures (for example, closing tabs is a huge pain), downloads are always slow no matter the website, and don’t have many ways to export them properly. No folders for bookmarks. the popup asking if it successfully casted is super annoying and the only good option is to either say yes (even if it didn’t) or cancel out, because if you say no it gives you an even more annoying full screen popup with useless information. Overall navigation feels clunky with lots of menus and you have to click around basically the entire phone screen in every corner to get to one location; I wish they’d move most navigation to the bottom of the screen like modern browsers and add more gestures to make navigation quick and require minimal movement. I have big hands but I still feel like I need to use both hands to use this app because of the weird layout. CONCLUSION: Overall the app is one of the best out there but it could use a ton of improvement. Because of that I can’t rate much higher that 3/5 stars. I do recommend this app to friends but I have to warn them about the problems which is a shame.

Subtitle timing sync is broken

The subtitle timing sync feature is completely broken. It will reverse the direction it’s supposed to go randomly, and there’s no other way to get your place back and/or reset the subtitle. You have to download a whole new subtitle and hope it’s synced up, or close enough that you can sync it in as few moves as possible. Too many attempts will break the feature. This is incredibly annoying in conjunction with opensubtitles.org having a limit for downloads, it’s very easily to lock your self out of being able to use subtitles for a video. Please fix, or at least add a reset to sync the subtitles to their original location.
