This app is really cool. I'd love to see an update as it looks a little dated. If someone from their support team could reach out to me I do have some questions on a particular workflow. I hope to hear from someone soon (fingers crossed).

I’m an amateur filmmaker taking a certification course. I did a thorough Pre-production, and wanted my work to look professional but on a limited budget, I got a used semi-pro camera with XLR mic preamps on eBay. It seemed to work well. I filmed my project outdoors, and all seemed well. After importing footage into Final Cut Pro, I began to put my film together. Then I happened to listen to a classmates project and his sound sounded much clearer than mine. I realized that mine had a lot of hiss.I should have recognized that initially, but this was my first project and I didn’t realize the issue until I heard someone else’s audio. I then recorded some footage with my camera in a silent room, with the same mics, mic preamps and gain settings and imported that clip(which contained only hiss) to Final Cut Pro X (FCPX). The clip had a sound floor of -50 decibels. I researched on the internet and found that you want your sound floor to be -75 to -85 decibels or less. I tried FCPX’s noise reduction but it automatically picks what it thinks is noise from your clip and removes it. I filmed outdoors. The outdoor ambient sound was removed as if it were unwanted noise, making the outdoors sound weirdly silent and making the dialogue too metallic(there likely is a better way to do this in FCPX, but I don’t know how, at least yet). I needed a program where I could manually tell it what was the noise and have it removed. I found a bunch of noise removal programs for sale, but most worked only on audio files, not video, and which seemed complicated and overkill for what I needed to get done. Thank goodness I found SoundSoap. With SoundSoap I opened my .mov file which contained only hiss, selected the region of noise, and saved that noise as a preset. Then I ran a batch process on all my .mov files at once(49 of them) using the pre-saved noise preset. I re-imported those movie clips(.mov files) back into FCPX and the audio was fantastic. Sound floor of -75 decibels with the dialogue and outdoor ambient sound unaffected. It was incredibly easy and fast. The program did exactly what I needed it to do.

I just updated to High Sierra 10.13.5. Soundsoap now works only on small video files less than 30 minutes long. I tried a couple of times tonight to use it on a movie 2hrs long and it crashed every time. I believe it’s time for someone to update something to solve this problem. I paid good money for it and I want it to work!

I use Final Cut Pro and sometimes I have background noise like a computer or air conditioning. This software totally saved my audio and made it sound professional. There are multiple versions - one one their website which will work as a plugin, and this one which is stand alone. I like the stand alone because I just run my audio through this before importing, but if you want the plugin then make sure to get that version instead.

Purchased program to aid noise reduction on my old vinyl LPs. Cannot locate plug-in once rercorded in Gararge Band. I attempted to find some instructional guidance in Soundsoap guide, no luck. — buyer beware.
