For some reason I can’t customize my characters clothes or skin is this a glitch or is it supposed to be like that?

So actually, I haven’t been able to play this. I’ve heard all of the reviews and it looks wonderful but my app isn’t loading the first screen for the avatar making. I understand that this is probably not the first time you’ve heard this but if there’s a way you can fix it that would be helpful. Other than that though I’m sure it’s a great app.
