United StatesAstroShader is an astrophotography app for capturing, stacking and editing. All you need is a stand, tripod, telescope or rock (to lean your phone on). AstroShader functions differently to traditional astrophotography workflows by aligning and stacking live during the image capture process. No need to transfer images to a computer to align and stack them separately. To take an image follow these steps: • Use a stand, tripod, telescope mount (or lean your iPhone on a rock). • Zoom in on stars and set focus manually. • Set the exposure time, ISO and white balance. • Set the number of exposures to be automatically aligned and stacked. • Calibrate your images from the edit tools. • After the capture is complete you can edit and save your image—including as 16bit TIFF. • You can open images directly to use the edit tools in AstroShader - rather following a new image capture. Image capture options include: • Number of exposures to be aligned and stacked • Exposure time • ISO • White balance • Camera type • Countdown timer • Manual focus • Pause the capture to reposition iPhone or telescope Edit options include: • Background extraction • x5 Histogram curves for fine tonal adjustment • x3 sharpen layers each with radius and intensity with layer blending rather than chaining • Brightness (low light enhancement) • Saturation • Black point • Temperature • Tint • Save format options; HEIF, PNG, JPEG, TIFF
Great app! One issue
This app is the greatest free astrophotography on the market by far. The UI is easy, and it takes amazing photos when used right. One issue. The thing crashes when taking long (like 40 sec+) exposures. After a certain amount of time it just kinda quits. Still an amazing app, and I would absolutely recommend to others!

In my opinion I think that it is missing some more functions. Such as automatic white balance, iso, and exposure time. If you could make it set the white balance by what filter you are using. Also the app really need’s better editing and the ability to stack photos manually and automatically aligned stacking. But this is a very good app for of what it is and it has so much potential. There doesn't seem to be a way merge the stacked photos. The point of taking multiple pictures in low light, which is a key feature in this app, is to combine them into a single picture to multiply the light gathered by several images.

Honestly if you combined this app with a plate solver like astrometry.net has this would be the best astrophotography app by far. You’d be able to see where you are and where your target is without 2 hours of being lost, especially in high bortle skies. Regardless this app is amazing for astrophotography and is so much better than the other subscription needing ones. Only nightcap is a real competitor but I feel it works better outside the telescope.

I really dearly ask you that yall work more towards makeing this app like a stacking software such as registaxx. It could allow me to stack and process space objects the auto align feature works well but please you will be a one of a kind app if you take that path towards becomeing a software for stacking and processing images. And I can assure many others will be looking for a app of this style. Also could you allow videos to be imported from camera roll to be aligned and stacked that would be very helpful even if all this becomes payware I will get it in a heartbeat please consider this! I am usually not one to review any apps, but this app deserves a good one. I got this app thinking: “well hopefully I can capture a few stars long exposure through my 4 inch telescope, maybe see down to 10th magnitude if I’m lucky.” Well, it took a little bit of time and patience, but I just recently took a series of 70 ten-second exposures of the Pleiades cluster through the telescope - and by golly - there were so many stars. In fact, I found that the limiting magnitude of the stars in the image was a stunning magnitude 14.0 - twenty times fainter than I can see with my eyes through the eyepiece. The fact that this app is free and you can still do all this is amazing. It is a must have for any serious astrophotographer.

I used this on my iPhone X and got some pretty impressive photos for what it was, but I upgraded to the 15 Pro and now the app crashes whenever I start it.
