Buggy since last update
LOVE this app, I listen to a multitude of podcasts daily (and subscribe to even more for niche interests and serials) and PocketCasts is one-and-only podcatcher. It could handle it all (200+ podcasts) and let’s me organize them into folders AND filters. However, since the last update (version 7.61) it’s been almost too buggy to function(!!!). The app crashes, takes forever to load, halts and skips, etc. I’m sure it’ll be dealt with soon, but it’s ruining my only pleasure in life rn, lol. *crying silently* Please fix it! 2 Suggestions: 1) Better Search Functionality — more Relevant search results (current algorithm often returns nonsensical listings unless you know the exact title) — allow Sorting results by date or title — include Older podcasts or episodes in searches (if they are still available for download) 2) Search Within Filters and Folders — needed when looking for particular episodes within a group or category Thank you!

4/23/2024 “developer” response stated “we have made some changes to address the issues you are facing. If the issue persists…” Since 2021, Automattic continues to fool….no more! In addition, their archiving of played podcasts takes up almost double storage space too (instead of deleting as other podcast apps allow). Deleted! “4/20/2024 the reply to my 10/23/2023 post was to go to some forum?!!! A few versions ago, auto-download worked for one (1) of the several podcasts that used to autodownload. Then the next version, autodownload didn’t work at all, then the version after that, four (4) podcasts autodownloaded, but the next version NO autodownload and that’s the same now with version 7.61. In addition, it’s background activity is 95 and 100%, such that it drives me to dump this nonsense. The former owner/developer was good until the current owner/developer. 10/25/2023 Since the current owners bought the app in mid-2021 the features no longer work, i.e., preferences for subscribed podcast do NOT work. No auto downloads, no notifications, no add to up next. So, one has to launch the app, tap a podcast, tap download, choose top or bottom of the queue, then go to the queue list and drag it to desired position of the queue list, i.e., not top nor bottom. So, why subscribe if nothing works? I kept thinking they would fix, but now after two years…and all the other unfixed issues that other users have reported here and elsewhere…

I must say this has been my fav app since inception. And I’ve certainly tried them all. But in recents times constant loading lag and crashing is becoming frustrating. Please don’t make me look elsewhere. It’s too great of an app. I’ve got over 600 subscriptions and don’t want to learn a new one.

It’s got every bell and whistle you could want and it’s a great looking app. It is by far the best podcast player I’ve used and I have used most of them. The best part is the syncing. Apple owns the platform and can’t sync like Pocket Casts. You can listen to the app on your phone, open up the web player and literally watch the progress bar move in sync. AMAZING! Episode management work just how I like it as well. I follow way too many podcast and if I miss some or don’t listen for a while I want them to go away. The auto archive feature does exactly this and I can set each podcast to a different archive option.
