Description
Full-text RSS
Love RSS feeds? So do we!!

RSS feeds are a great way to follow updates on your favorite website. However, some sites set up their feeds to only show a portion of each entry, you know, to get you to click through to their actual website. We find that really annoying, and we're sure you do too.

Which is why, unlike other RSS feed readers, that either push you into a browser (in-app or otherwise), or depend on third party text parsing services and require you to be online to fetch the full text of one article at a time (which makes it no different from having to click/tap through to a website), in lire, you get your favorite RSS feeds as they should've been. You don't need to click through to any website (though, you do still have the option to, if you really wanted). It takes your favorite partial feeds, does it's magic, and converts them in to full feeds, so you don't have to click/tap on those annoying 'Read more' or 'Continue reading' links.

Once they're cached, you don't even need to be connected to read your full-text feeds.

Use as a standalone feed reader,

or,

sync with any of the several services: Feedly, Feedbin, FeedHQ, The Old Reader, Inoreader, BazQux Reader, Newsblur, Feed Wrangler, FreshRSS, Miniflux, Nextcloud News, Tiny Tiny RSS.

Clunky iCloud integration, rude developer

This is a review of a use case over the long term. I had to cull some data from my iCloud allowance when I discovered that Lire is taking up a whopping gigabyte of storage. I figured that this has been built up over time, so I selected “reset iCloud data on my mac.” Turns out this setting not only deletes the data, but destroys all device identification with my Apple ID. I wrote to the developer in a polite and even complimentary manner, only to for it to be met with hostility. I asked him if there’s a solution to reconnect my iPad and Mac to my iCloud. His response: “ No there isn’t a solution. Like the alerts said: This can not be undone. Why would you assume it was going to be rebuilt if it does not say that anywhere?” The real question is: why is this app poorly coded so as to take up a gigabyte of cloud data? Why would resetting iCloud data — a supposed fix for this poor designing decision — break the app like this? Above all, why would a developer treat his customers like this? Is this someone who’s worth giving your money to? Edit: I did not "hurl insults" at the developer. Nor did I ask to recover my data. Why would I want to recover last month's news? I just wanted to recover my connection to iCloud. The short of the entire exchange was this: I reported a problem, got scolded with a message that effectively says "why would you do that?" Then I explain my reasoning, and I get another message effectively saying, once more: "why would you do that?" This gives me license to be upset and to tell him that he's contemptuous of his customers, and that his coding decisions (i.e., 1. to fill up my iCloud with junk, a problem he has refused to acknowledge; and 2. to build a setting into the app that permenantly breaks its connection with iCloud) are poor. May the readers be the judges of whether the first charge is correct. The second -- in light of the fact that these features (!) and not bugs -- is objectively so.

Excellent rss reader

I have had several RSS readers over the last ten years, and this is an excellent one, that is also updated frequently. I had an issue with the app crashing constantly, and the developer worked with me to correct the issue (it was not obvious what the cause was).

Developers is always working on improvements

Whenever I have an issue with Lire and I email the developer there is always a reply and he works to fix the issue.

Slow sync with web services hinders other good features

I love some of the features and the support for BazQux smart streams, but the sync engine for web services is in severe need of an overhaul from the ground up -- it drags the experience down so much that I end up just using Reeder most of the time where sync is literally 100x faster. I want to use Lire, but Reeder syncs in seconds where Lire may take 5-15 mins. Please consider improving!

App Crashes at Launch

Current version of app crashes at launch. Doesn't work. This is the same as the last two releases. Crashes at launch. Since there's no way to know how the app works on macOS, I can only give it 1 Star. The iOS & iPadOS Apps have been great! ErrorI get at crash: Application Specific Information: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Unbalanced state change freezing/thawing!' terminating with uncaught exception of type NSException abort() called This is my review of the app when it did open before: I've been reading most articles via RSS for many many years now, and lire has always been one of the few RSS apps on iOS that I've used. Seems like there was some hiccups initially with the macOS app, but now that the app's working again I'll be checking it out a little more. Would be great if the text filled the entire space when opening an article in Reader Mode. On a Mac in full screen the text is still confined to a small space as opposed to filling the space. Still! This is a great app.
