Download and view topographic maps covering the United States. Topographic maps are useful for recreational activities such as hiking, canoeing, camping, fishing, mountain biking, geocaching, and exploring. MAPS Choose from 2 map sources: USGS standard topographic or USGS hybrid topographic. OFFLINE Download maps for areas of interest to view them later when you don't have Internet access or you don't want to use cell data. TRACKING Use location tracking to show where you are on the map, your elevation, and the accuracy of the GPS signal. FLAGS Flags are included with map downloads. Add flags (waypoints) to the map to mark your current location or other locations. Import flags from other sources using GPX files and geocache LOC files. Share flags with others using email or AirDrop. Organize your flag types by color, for example, geocaches, trailheads, and summits. TRAILS Trails are included with map downloads. Import trails (tracks) using GPX files you find on the Internet or from your personal GPS track collection. Share trails with others using email or AirDrop. Organize your trail types by color, for example, mountain bike trails, hiking trails, and OHV trails. TRAIL RECORDING Record your own trails to show where you've been on the map, follow them later, and share with others. ELEVATION PROFILE Recorded trails include an elevation profile (distance/elevation chart). NAVIGATION Navigate to a flag by following the direction arrow that uses your compass heading. Useful for geocaching. MEASURE Measure the distance between points on the map. Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
Wonderful!
I have been looking for this for years. Most map apps lie about offline mode and require web for even the most basic functions. This app is reliable, detailed and safe to rely on when I know 100% I'll be out of service. The GPS accuracy meter is perfect. Things like remaining trail length and the great system to download and manage maps make it a cut above even the paid outdoors apps for my needs. This is almost as reliable as carrying seven minute topos. But 1,200+ of them.
Super useful
I only wish the app supported CarPlay and maybe even Apple Watch
Amazing app.
Easy to use. Great data. Perfect for offline trips. Does what is does really well. So many navigation apps try to do everthing and end up doing nothing well. Have loved this app for years. My go to app for backcountry fun.
Never led me astray!
I have bee using Topo Maos for a few years. It is great for exploring in advance and keep track of where you are in the wild. It works with Wi-Fi, blue tooth off and in airplane mode. I also set “low power” mode to preserve battery. Topo still works withh all that!
Overall Best US hiking topo maps
I’ve tried several GPS topo map apps and this is the best one. It has all the key features needed for backcountry hiking without cell service and it’s free. But you must download the maps before your trip, which is very easy to do. Features include showing your location while phone is in airplane mode (iPhone, not sure about other platforms), ability to drop flags (e.g. car is here), measure distance, find compass heading to a flag, and more. I’ve used this app for several years on many backpacking trips and it has helped me enormously, especially when hiking off-trail or on snow-covered trails.
The Best
Ive messed around with all the trail map apps. This is miles ahead of all the paid apps out there. This one just works. Download your Maps and go. Been using this while riding off road in my SxS and is a godsend. Thank you for making an app that just works.

- Improved map download performance in congested areas with many trails and flags - Additional trail type included in map downloads (equestrian) - Fix for trail length calculation when trail compression setting is on Medium or Low - Fix for faint checkerboard pattern behind the map detail for downloads in certain areas, eg. northern Washington state
