NOTE: Before using SWconnect, please read the support FAQ questions: http://rvtechtools.com/support.html#swconnectfaq. If you have any issues, please contact me at [email protected]. Check out usage videos on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7aOP41UX2K1Mx35R_kTLdg SWconnect allows user to connect and track their travels on the SpotWalla website: https://spotwalla.com. Spotwalla is a secure location manager, which support several different devices for keep track of location during travels. It is routinely used by long distance motorcycle riders, boaters and even RV owners. SWconnect allow you to connect with your account on Spotwalla, and tracks your progress on a timed basis. IOS users previously were able to use the Latitude app to share their location with SpotWalla, however, that application was removed in August, 2013. SWconnect is intended to run in the background. General use once logged in, is to simply enable tracking, put the app in the background, put your phone in your pocket and ride. Your points will be stored with the device information on SpotWalla, and you can create custom trips which show your location over a specified time period. BATTERY USAGE INFO: SWconnect uses GPS information, and as such battery use will be similar to most navigation type of applications. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. SWconnect now uses a new lower GPS accuracy strategy when the application is running in the background, however it is always suggested to use external power when possible, and to turn off tracking in the app controls during periods when you are not moving.
Reliable app, programmer very responsive
The programmer responds to emails and monitors a Spotwalla help forum, and is eager to make the app useful and help debug any problems. Very nice of him, to provide support for a free app!
Great tracking app!
SWConnect is an amazing app for tracking motorcycle rides and having them post on Spotwalla. I’ve enjoyed this app for several years and the few times I have had questions Ray has responded quickly and helpfully. I highly recommend this app for anyone wanting to track their trips and have others track them as well on Spotwalla.
Great app.
This app is a mush have if your doing iron butt rides or just want to track your motorcycle riding. Even for areas with no cell service it will keep locking and send off the information once you reestablish connection to a cell tower with data.
Outstanding app
Outstanding app. This lets me track my position during motorcycle or car rides/trips which is viewable on Spotwalla. If I choose to, I can also give the link to friends and family and they can see where I’ve been. It also has other features as well. The developer does a great job of hearing from users and responding to any questions and concerns and has added improvements based on user feedback. This app is definitely a must have for me and I’ve now been using it since it first came out in 2015, I believe.
Works great!
I’ve used this app for years and it’s great! Allows you to use your phone to track your location and works well with Spotwalla. I used it for motorcycle trips so friends and family can check on me. I’ve also used it for documentation on Iron Butt sanctioned rides. I highly recommend SW Connect!
Fantastic and free!!
I love this app. I have been using it for years when I travel. I quit paying for my Spot Tracker account. Why pay $160 per year when you can use this for free? Call me cheap. <shrug> I love the custom message feature to take pictures and it shows up where you are on the map. Very easy and it adds fun for people watching your trip.
App stops tracking, won't upload, won't track at 5min interval
As the previous user said, it stops tracking for strange reasons. If you loose cell signal, and have only wifi it will not upload anything, you must connect to cellular to upload. This is a HUGE BUG. The app also does not track based on the slider for 5-10 min selected. I have seen tracks 40-50-60 min apart when I'm nonservice areas, driving at 45-60mph. When in a service area it tracks as expected based on the time slider. When going from nonservice to service on cellular, it just fails to auto upload the way points, and disable tracking and re-enabling tracking forces upload. Auto tracking seems to get stuck and never uploads until you disable location. Very buggy.
Version 1.5.11 brings continued efforts to help with battery usage when tracking while not plugged in to power. SWconnect will now go into a significant change location mode if the app is exiting. This allows the OS to restart the app when there has been significant movement of the device. As per request from a user, when taking a picture to upload to Spotwalla, the image is now saved in full resolution, rather than the scaled down version. The photo library can now also be used as a source for a picture to upload to Spotwalla.
