Chicago L Subway Map is only app you need to ride the 'L'. With offline CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) and Chicago Metra maps to save data and live line updates, the CTA map is fast so you can ride the L without delays. Apart from the main Chicago CTA map there's also a detailed Downtown Chicago map, an RTA Regional System Map (CTA, Metra, and Pace) so you can view the best connections to make as well as a point to journey planner that will tell you the fastest routes and lowest cost of getting from A to B by train, bus, car, taxi, bike and foot. Not just in Chicago, but from anywhere in the world to anywhere else! You can even see if the lines are running or disrupted without opening the app by adding the widget to your lockscreen and get notifications by hitting the star for your most used lines. If you're living, working or just visiting Chicago Illinois, then get this free app on your device now, and don't wait for that moment that when you wished you had it now! ** For those of you that travel a little further we've also added access to all our other market leading subway maps such as New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Montreal, London, Paris, Moscow, Madrid, Amsterdam, Brussels, Rio de Janiero, Sao Paulo, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Need more info
I don’t know why the train is stopping for lengthy periods. Would be nice to know what’s going on.
Not good for tracking actual train arrival times
This app is only helping for showing a map. Not helpful for showing train arrival times
Extremely Helpful while in the city!
I love this app. Makes CTA train travel so much easier. Not only is the map easy to view while in a hurry, but the GPS feature identifies the closest station from your location! Great feature.
How does this have 4.5 stars!?!?
This app tries to be simple, but its really just useless, clunky, and hard to navigate. It opens on a image of the entire L system, with the station nearest to you glowing. In my opinion this is a terrible home screen, as it gives me only one piece on info that I already know most of the time. There are three hard to find buttons on the bottom for navigation out of the useless homesceeen: - more apps (self promotion) - more - more maps (images you can download of other city systems) Only one of these tabs has any actual day to day use: the amazingly descriptively named “more” tab. After a glitchy transition straight out of a 2009 powerpoint, you get to the first useful part of this entire package: system alerts. These are presented decently and are accurate, as far as I could tell. Back to the bad stuff. I was wondering where the trip planner was, as that seemed like the only useful part left in this app. After a while digging around this terrible UI, I finally found it: the alerts page has a HIDDEN slide out menu! In this secret menu I found: - Chicago Subway (first no one calls the system this and second this is how you get back home apparently?) - Downtown Chicago (takes you to an image of the loop insert) - Trip Planner! - More Maps (redundant) - More Apps(redundant self promotion) So this trip planner? Just a web version of google maps, which I would much rather use. If you want a Chicago specific option theres a lot better out there than this.
Doesn’t Work
I downloaded this app after my favorite CTA app was discontinued. Upon opening it, all I could see was the map. When I tried clicking “more” at the bottom it said “an error occurred, please try again later.” I closed and reopened the app about 5 times and it happened every time.
Do not use
Absolute battery destroyer... I was needing to find power every chance I had, and later found the app was location tracking while it was completely inactive. Battery returned to normal drain after deleting it. Google maps ended up far more useful and without the power issues.
Great app, very helpful
I’m moving to Chicago soon for college, so out of curiosity I downloaded this app. I’m from a relatively smaller city, and one without any good public transportation, so I wanted to know about the trains in Chicago, where they went, and which stops were closest to me. This map is very basic, but used in tandem with Google Maps is very useful! I can see where I need to go on Google Maps, what stop is closest to where I’m coming from and where I’m going on there, and then I can pop back into this app to see how the train works and make sure I don’t get off at the wrong stop. I did use it a lot when I visited Chicago for the first time. I didn’t get lost once. If I could rate 10 stars, I would. Works great, even in the subway tunnels. To maximize the potential, I suggest using it in tandem with Google Maps.
