United StatesVOSIS is a synthesizer combining audification of greyscale pixel data with several image filters. It is a tool for image sonification, visual music composition, and experimental sound design. The audification of pixel luminance values creates shape-timbre relationships. Pixel scan rate is controlled in terms of note interval, octave, and scale to give varying pitch between image regions. The ADSR envelope allows one to play images as a non-linear sequence of pitches with varying wavetable/timbre. VOSIS Pro adds several features to VOSIS useful for sound designers and musicians: Save and load custom presets, connect a MIDI keyboard and play regions with keys, map any control and region positions to MIDI CC, unlimited recording and screen mirroring with no watermark, downsampling/blur/sharpen, and tremolo filters, subdivide large regions into step sequence mode, load video files (iPad and Desktop versions only). Future updates I am wishing for
I love this app, my current update wishes are the following: Ability to scan the whole screen - I prepare and draw out images to be scanned. I feel restricted with the max size of the scanning cube. I wish this could be expanded. I wish for chromatic and if possible customizable scales. Option to save just the audio. I use another program to extract the audio off the saved video to place in my DAW. AUv3 connectivity with tempo sync. This would be a game changer and a lot of people would get a hold of this app. Midi out would be a nice to have. Even though audio to midi tend to never be perfect. It’s nice to have the raw track to use as a starter to arrange parts with other synths.

love this app its supercool i can spend hrs creating drones w this thing, seing what my face sounds like etc. it has a low growl that i really like. for me iphone xr 16.5.1 no issues w crashing. only slight downside is i can’t record and export to audioshare i have to go thru LumaFX and export the audio only, no biggie but kind of a pain. ps. i cant get it to work in audiobus or aum i load it up but when i add effects apps to it the vosis stops making sound, even tho its recording. maybe im doing something wrong i dunno. anyway, drone on

I figured out the BPM issue (my bad). I love the potential of this app. I wish it had a way to relate RGB and grayscale values to pitches, velocity and other CC controllers. Also a start sync with AUM would be great.
United StatesGreat app but doesn’t work in AUM or Cubasis
I had this app for years and rediscovered it while purging my iPad of apps I don’t use. I am now in love this app and have many ideas for it but it doesn’t work in the background in AUM or Cubasis nor does it recognize midi inputs in AUM or Cubasis. The webite doesn’t have enough support data. If this app was able to temp sync to both of these apps it would be amazing. As a stand-alone app it would be nice if you have an option to save audio only. Also play/stop video controls. Using the speed slider is not always usable. Also the ability to not loop the video would also be good. Playing a video in reverse could also be an interesting feature. Hope the developer sees this and responds.

This is a 5 star app even though it crashes to the point of being almost unusable. The vision and interface are brilliant. The sounds are awesome. But I haven’t been able to save anything more than a few very short, very simple videos. I open a video, add 5 scan areas, and then BAM, it quits. Sometimes I don’t even make it to 5 areas. Sometimes the visuals freeze and it becomes unresponsive to touch even though it continues playing the sounds. Stick with the free version. I had less problems using it. Which is a shame, because the Pro version is a expensive. At first I thought it was crashing or freezing because my battery was low. But it continued to be a problem with a full charge. Then I tried closing all my apps, and restarting my ipad, but still haven’t gotten the Pro version to last more than 20-30 seconds. I can do 5 or 10 second video recordings with 2-3 scan areas but that’s about it so far. I’m on a pro ipad 12.9 inch 512GB. Gonna keep trying, though, because the aesthetic fits a project I have in mind…
