Description
Step Arpeggiator/Sequencer
"StepPolyArp" is a real-time polyphonic and polyrhythmic MIDI step arpeggiator and step sequencer. It can be used as a standalone application or an AUv3 MIDI effect plug-in.

The application and the plug-in can operate as a step arpeggiator by automatically generating melodic patterns from played notes or chords, or as a step sequencer that doesn't require MIDI input to play.

Unlimited presets can be saved on a local device and synchronized to iCloud. Each preset contains 16 patterns, 5 customizable polyrhythmic step controllers, and a 32 steps event matrix with 11 polyphonic and polyrhythmic lines driving the arpeggiator engine.

The application supports full internal and external MIDI connections for input and output, Ableton Link sync, and MIDI clock source sync. An internal sound bank is included.

The AUv3 MIDI effect plug-in supports multiple instances. A compatible host is required to run the plug-in. The host needs to support the Audio Unit v3 (AUv3) MIDI effect format.

Hosts supporting AUv3 MIDI effect: Logic Pro, Cubasis, Beatmaker, AUM, Audiobus, NanoStudio, Auria Pro, apeMatrix.

Any way to use velocities from the controller?

This is an excellent arpeggiator! Unfortunately I see no way to use the velocities that are played on the controller versus translating them to the sequence of velocities stored with the arp pattern. Is there a way to bypass the velocities so that you can utilize your own performed dynamics like the way most hardware arpeggiators work?

It’s got potential, but…

The functionality it’s there, but is there a way to add a sampling feature. Just to add different sounds and not just stock sounds. Just an idea

Wish it had real time velocity control

Love this app but I am finding myself wishing it had some realtime velocity control when I am playing chords into it. Would love to see capability in the next update. Thanks.

Phenomenal

Ridiculously good MIDI controller with a ton of versatility, stands out head and shoulders above the rest.

Ignore the 1 star review.

Read it, but don’t base your shopping on the poorly measured star rating. The review itself goes into saying just how many things this AU does well, get somehow it still got a 1 star from him/her. Things to consider about that review: 1 - yes internal sounds are probably lame (I don’t even use them so I can’t really say, but did you come here for a sequencer or a sound library? Pretty useless to judge it based on its sounds which are clearly there only so the app can “be standalone”. It’s not meant to be used that way 🤦🏻‍♂️). 2 - Yep, no global transposition (and this COULD be good). I use this on AUM and ApeMatrix, both hosts have tools to transpose midi so I can’t really say it’s a dealbreaker for me, it’s just not something I do IN StepPolyArp. It would be convenient though, but it’s not a deal breaker for me. Take that as you wish. 3 - didn’t get the whole pitch per lane thing - you can DEFINITELY pitch a lane by using absolute pitch. Otherwise, just go with relative and set a SCALE for the whole sequencer/arpeggiator. So, to me, this doesn’t make sense as a complaint. There’s a reason you can either define them as absolute notes or relatives to scale. Maybe I just didn’t catch his issue. 4 - NOT overpriced at all. I mean, 15 dollars is expensive, but NOTHING comes close to the sequencing this little gem offers. Like, literally nothing. I’m pretty sure I own all sequencers worth checking out on iPhone and this is by far the best. 6 - as said before he/she does offer good points (although a completely non-deserved exaggerated rating accompanied his critics): Being able to multi select would be great. A markee tool would be very convenient for this. For the dev: Please! Consider adding the option of inputting the midi notes through a midi controller. If we could use the sequencer and introduce notes as the sequence advances without actually having to touch the screen this thing would be EVEN more massive. Not much else to say other than : If you like using sequencers and arpeggiators, this is probably one of the purchases you will get the most out of. Definitely one of my top 10 apps, and I have a TON of music apps. Especially AUs.

Aged. Now many apps costing MUCH less offer similar features.

GOOD and EXCELLENT: ***Excellent stability, does not crash. ***Great overall control of the pattern / arpeggio. ***Well designed user interface. ***Excellent velocity adjustment panel with multi touch drawing feature. ***Very useful “beat sync phase” under tempo adjustments. NOT SO GOOD: ***No multi select for events/notes (only in the form of selecting all, every other, every fourth etc. but not specifically selected notes). This forces tedious event behavior adjustments which have to be done one by one on every event (in addition the boxes in the menu for selecting the events behavior are small). ***The individual rows can’t have pitches loaded as a preset (meaning you can’t quickly assign a scale to all rows’ pitches. ). ***No quick global transposition. Yes, you could transpose the pattern simply by pressing a different piano key but sometimes you want specific keys to be pressed (when using piano keys to base the arpeggio on), also you can transpose pitch of each row in the pattern individually but you can’t quickly do it to all the rows globally. ***Poor internal sounds, no user sounds. ***Confusing currently playing pattern indication (or a bug?). It’s the pattern that is due/next that is flashing, all other patterns are still. It would be easier to spot the current pattern if it was flashing or if there was another indication of the current pattern, such as display of the pattern’s number. ***“Grid edit” under the cog wheel in the top right corner above the pattern window not logical. Some controls apply to all the grid’s rows but “fill all steps” applies only to the main middle row. In addition, selecting “fill all steps” deletes all events in the other rows. ***Has a bug where sometimes changing the rows’ length has no effect on where the rows loop. ***After being opened in a background in a while as idle, when returning to the app it won’t plat the pattern / arp at all. A restart is needed (at least it remembers the state before the restart). *** Way overpriced

Amazing

Extremely well made, well thought out app for arpeggios and sequences. This thing handles the bread and butter while opening up possibilities I hadn't even thought of. Also, I had a support question and the response from the developer was really quick. You get what you pay for folks, and this one's well worth it.
